Did you really make this thread? He's not going to play regardless of how bad he wants to and we want/NEED him to play. I'm sure it already hurts like a b**** and playing on it will deinitely make it worse. Its not happening. Ridiculous.
No - its that the question doesn't make sense. First off, its not a stress fracture. They deemed it an impact fracture - which was one of the things that Yao said made it better than last year. It's not like he can just suck it up and play on a broken foot. You're telling me that if there was ANY chance he could play, Yao wouldn't suit up and go onto the floor to play in THIS series? He's injured - he's not coming back until he's healed. It doesn't matter if we go beyond this series or not. This is not a mind over matter issue - he can't play.
They are not mutually exclusive. The way I understood it, it was on the top of his foot, not his ankle.
If we win, it means we're much more effective without Yao than with a hobbled Yao. Why would we want an injured player slowing down our team?
This team match up well with the Lakers even without Yao. But to advance deeper into the Playoffs, they absolutely need Yao i think. Every team is different.
For a guy whose been here a while, this is a pretty dumb thread. Yao's season is over - he's not "out for a week" or anything, he's D-O-N-E. If it was Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and it came down to a free throw to win it.. Yao's not shooting that free throw either.
Is this really a question? It said 8-12 weeks for BROKEN foot to heal. If he is playing on a completely gimp leg, not only will he likely future aggrevate it, but he is also not going to be effective enough to make it worth playing him.
I can have Willis Reed dreams if I want to I just have to think in the back of my mind... if its game 7 of the finals... cortisone shot in the foot... lace em up? maybe? please? pretty please?
It is hairline, not stress fracture like the one he had last year. Per Yao, it is from the sprains he had during game 3, so it is an accident rather than accumulative pounding over time.
Dead on, I agree with this. I was really expecting to see a guy with 50 posts, posting this thread. It doesn't make sense. It isn't like Rockets are sitting him because he matches up bad. He is sitting out because he is truly injured.
I guess we just have to accept that Yao is really done for good this postseason. That said, if he suited up and said, "Guess what, I'm playing the next game," I sure as hell wouldn't try to stop him.
I was misinformed from the injury threads on this BBS then. I was under the assumption his injury was cummulative. If he's that hurt, then fine, no ball. I figured they were holding him out as a precaution, as tiny fractures can get worse of course.
i think the best way to explain it is stress fractures are caused by repetitive stress, and may or may not be hairline. Hairline just means it was a crack int he bone. So technically a fracture can always be hairline regardless of wether it happened from one blow or repetitive hits as long as it's just a crack. If yao's happened from one blow, but wasn't very strong and just caused a crack, then it's not a stress fracture, but still a hairline.
If the Rockets are good enough to beat the Lakers without Yao Ming, then I'd stick with them. What would an injured Yao bring to the mix?
you know what - if Rockets match up against Magic in the Finals - Yao has to throw himself in to win it.
if we make it to the finals (which is around 3-4 weeks from now), i'd hope for him to play limited minutes. around 4 weeks of no usage should allow him to rest. he'd play a limited role, but it's huge against a team like cleveland or even orlando.
