    That's it!
Anybody ties his two fingers together like Yao does will definitely have the same problem, it's not natural and it's difficult to get used to it.
Yao's fg% is not a problem, he will be fine.
But what bothers me is that when Yao shoots badly, his rbs and defense will be even worse, that's a psychological problem, he must overcome it.

i'm glad yao realizes that it is HIS shot to take and press on it. he'll be ok. it's only a small slump. everyone goes through it and he definitely has in the past as well.

I actually was encouraged by how he looked yesterday. Yao is almost there, he was running up and down the court better than I have seen him, he was actually not the last Rocket to make it to the other end in transition. He also got rid of that bandage on his fingers would should help him grip the ball better and help his feel when he shoots the ball.

We have all seen Yao play had a high level since mid-season last year, so you have to ride the big guy and let him shoot at will so he can find the groove by the playoffs.

I wasn't able to watch the game yesterday, but it seems like his stamina is coming back. Yao just needs to stay aggressive and pound it in... post and repost. If he doesn't dribble, he usually doesn't have any turnovers. Its usually because he is too far away from the basketball that leads him to dribble and lose the ball.

Not only should he keep shooting, he HAS to keep shooting.

That is the Rockets offense......he just has to work his way out of it.

But even in a slump he is still getting wide open looks for teamates.

And, I would hardly call 2 games in a row a slump.....for slump see Rafer !

Keep feeding the big fella until he doesnt want it.
Give some trust to the big guy, teammates included. He got bumped a lot in Hornet's game. That affected his face up shots a lot. He did need to try finishing strong though. No more cute lay up. Grab the damn ball with TWO hands and flush it with authority.

2 alright games and he's in a slump??

    seriously...just...wow.

I mean, we're all concerned, but lets just give it a little bigger sample size before we over criticize every single step that he takes.

"He's walking slow. Its his stamina, no his knee, no he's not tough enough, he needs to walk faster."

He should continue to shoot, but he should stop shooting those fadeaway midrange jumpers. Go strong to the basket and draw fouls. Can't get whistle? Who cares? Do it again and again and force Refs to call fouls. Eventually Refs will give him calls.

Only guards, especially those one-dimensional jump shooters, need to "shoot" themselves out of the slump. I've heard a center need to do that. That will be too soft.

I remember calvin murphy use to say that the best way to get out of a shooting slump,is to keep shooting the ball. However, this does not apply to rafer.

But his FG% is dropping. We can't have his FG% looking bad, it's Yao Ming, man. So he needs to shoot much less, who gives a **** if it hurts the team. when he has a couple of 4-4 and 5-6 games his FG% will raise again and appear to look better on the overall statistics for Yao Ming the King, then and only then should he increase his fg attempts. that of course is only if he starts to make at least 55% percent while taking an increased number of shot attempts. if he struggles agains, he needs to set a goal of going back to putting together a string of 4-5 fg or 3-4 fg games to get his shot percentage back at a respectable level again. Come on fellas, this is Yao Mings FG % we are talking about here, we got to make it look good, or else his carrer FG% numbers will suffer and we can't have that.

He was out for 32 freaking days that will take a toll on anyone trying to come back. I know he will get better as the games come along and his shots will be fine come playoff time. I just wish the Rockets would have a third consistent scorer(damn you Bonzi).

So did he REALLY tear off the bandage later in the game as reported ? In most of the game photos I posted, the bandage was still there.

I believe it was in 4th Q. Right after taking off the tape, he made two back to back FG's.

i would like to see yao get deeper for dunks and hook shots. i dont like seeing yao take jumpers even when he makes them. that should be t-mac's job. when you watch shaq he is such a dominant force because he gets so low in the paint and noone can stop him. ive never once seen yao attack the basket like shaq but that may be because hes so tall and slow and its much easier for him to lose the ball. still i would like for yao to be an INSIDE presence like shaq.

Yes. You can't get out of a slump any other way.

Let's keep things in perspective. Yao has had 2 games where he has been shooting poorly (relative to his standards). In the last game vs. the Bucks he was 9 of 22 or shot about 41%. Even given this "poor" shooting, compare him to the other Rox starters' season FG%: T-Mac 43%, Battier 45%, Howard 48% (I am ignoring Chick as an offensive player), and Skip 38%. On Yao's worse night, he is still relatively efficient vs. our other options (I will give T-Mac a little bit of a pass as he gets stuck with a lot of crappy shots late in the clock). On his average night he is a much more efficient shooter than anyone else on the floor. Net-net, if Yao has a shot he should be taking it EVERY time regardless of what he has been doing earlier in the game.

    It's the tapeand his fingers.
Look at last night's game before and after he removed the tape. He missed a slam dunk because he couldn't palm the ball.
