I don't think you get the point:

Tinsley will stay home until Pacers can trade him, Bird says

    Sep. 26, 2008
    CBSSports.com wire reports

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jamaal Tinsley will remain on the Pacers roster while the team tries to trade him, but the guard won't practice with Indiana when it opens training camp Tuesday.

The team will not buy out Tinsley's contract, Pacers president Larry Bird said Friday.

"He will stay wherever he's at until we get something done. Jamaal knows that, his agent knows it and we know it," Bird said. "Nothing has changed from what we said at the beginning of the year.

"We're going to try to get the best deal for us. If it drags on a little bit, then that's what it's got to be."

The Pacers made their intentions clear to Tinsley this summer when they removed the nameplate from his locker at Conseco Fieldhouse and sent his belongings to him in Atlanta.

Tinsley has been with the Pacers since before the 2001-02 season, but has been hampered by injuries and off-court legal problems in recent years. He played in just 39 games last season, the fewest in his seven-year NBA career. In March, charges in connection with a bar fight were dropped against Tinsley and teammate Marquis Daniels, who agreed to perform 32 hours of community service.

Daniels is still with the Pacers but Tinsley became expendable in a roster shakeup that brought in seven new players over the summer.

"Right now we're discussing with some teams and we've been discussing with his agent throughout," Bird said. "And when it comes down to it, I really like Jamaal as a person. I think it's better for us to go in a different direction."

The new players include point guards T.J. Ford, acquired as part of a trade with Toronto for Jermaine O'Neal, and Jarrett Jack, who came as part of a trade with Portland for Ike Diogu.

Also, forward Austin Croshere, who was drafted by Bird in the first round in 1997 and spent his first nine seasons with the Pacers, has been invited to training camp. Croshere played for Dallas and Golden State the past two years.

1st of all, we would be in luxury tax for the next 3 years and that pretty much gives us no shot at retaining Artest. Francis most likely won't even make an impact this year. Brooks and Brent our really our only pgs. We do need another pg, but not at this price tag.
