we're 2-2 vs. utah and 0-4 vs. l.a. this season. you tell me which team we should worry more about.

the jazz team is pretty much the same team compared to last year or the year before. we otoh have a better team than last year and arguably the year before.

and again, other than losing both remaining games on purpose to drop to #5 and lose hca altogether, how practically do we avoid the jazz?

definitely no, remember what happens to Mavs back in 06-07 season? they give up the last game and what happens during playoff? I don't think lose on purpose is a good idea

not yet. we could still fall to 5 if we can't win in Dallas and the others win out.

Actually if the Rockets do win out the rest of the way there is a good chance will not face the Jazz. We would get the second seed and the Jazz would take the 6th (two assumptions are made here (1) Denver loses to Portand in its final game (2) the Lakers have nothing to play for by the last game of the year).

Because the Hornets and Mavericks are the ones competing with Utah for that spot. While its NOT a guarantee, it is what is required to make more of a reality.

Jazz plays Lakers on the 14th in LA. That should be penciled 'L' unless LA rests Kobe. Losing this one means 33 Losses for Utah. Hornets have 31 and have 3 remaining games. If we forfeit one to them, they finish with 33.

Who owns the tiebreaker between Hornets and Utah? That is a really important question.

Hornets play Mavs tomorrow. Since Jazz owns the tiebreaker with Mavs, I prefer Hornets lose. And Mavericks have a game vs Twolves coming up - that's almost a given.

I'm not sure how things will play out, but typing this made me realize the Mavs can move up too much. If we can win the remaining two games, we should go for it :D

    win everything we can.

amusing as the cowardly lions are, using practicality to disguise their faint heart, just win baby. let the chips fall as they will. "faint heart never won fair maiden".

if they're scared of the road ahead, they've already lost.

Get the 2nd or 3rd seed is our best choice, with the HCA(in the 1st round) and aviod the Lakers(in the 2nd round)...

    Let's put it this way:

If the Nuggets lose one, we should aim for wins in both games to claim #2 seed.

If Nuggets win both, we can finish 3rd by winning both games. We hold the tiebreaker with Portland.

BUT if we lose to the Hornets, and all that is required of us to send Utah to #8 is losing to the Mavericks on the last day, we should consider it. For this to happen, Hornets and Mavericks have to do some winning on their own.

getting the #2 also gives us the hca in the second rd.

the mavs won their last game of that season against the Supersonics.

they may have rested their starters the last two games because they had their seeding locked up. the game they lost to GSW was the 2nd last of the season, but I still say again WHY ASSUME that Dallas would have beat them? the Warriors had their number all year long and went on to beat them healthy.

It's time to stop making every scenario work out that we avoid the Jazz. we can beat the Utah Jazz, right now, this postseason.

Totally agree. We're busy fighting for HCA and people are worried about who will come into our house and try to steal a win from us. Absurd...So many complain about disrespect from the national media about the Rockets, but so many in this thread disrespect their own team by claiming they should "lose for their own good."

Who the hell thinks Artest or Wafer or Scola, or hell the attitude he played with tonight, Deke, will ever enter that mindset anyway?

WIN OUT! And take bragging rights with you into the playoffs, if nothing else...

    thank you.

saying #1 was not locked was based on alexcapone's set of priorities you responded to.

#1 was to get homecourt advantage. that is not locked yet.

I swear man, I worry about our fan-base...how many threads have been created like this? Implying that we should lose to avoid the Jazz.

Do I WANT to avoid the Jazz. Absolutely.

Do we NEED to avoid the Jazz... NO! We can beat them, series 2-2 last I checked and just because they beat us the past two seasons that crap means nothing this season.

Losing games to avoid the Jazz is sad.

I absolutely WANT to WIN the last 2 games.

However, no Yao most likely will equal 2 losses anyway, Mavs and Hornets will be desperate.

I swear man, I worry about you. How many times do I have to say that this thread is JUST a question! It isn't meant to imply anything at all!

I was just wondering what the overall impression was, of a question.

Can people PLEASE read the original post, before saying something so concrete?

No, we're not fishing for lottery position, so tanking is dumb. I do think the Rockets should put Yao on ice, until the playoffs, though.
