Nope, i wouldn't do it. Can't deny that I'm slightly tempted, though. If the trade was sweetened I just might pull the trigger.

This thread could have generated some discussion but instead it just generated sarcasm and a bunch of 1-star votes. The OP didn't even remotely say the trade was a great idea...

Top ten scorers don't grow on trees. Martin is not being traded for anything less than an All-Star

He has also had a handful of opportunities.

In my opinion, the C position is far more valuable.

Not to mention Kevin Martin's large contract, and the fantastic flexibility we would have in the future with Gortat's awesome contract and youth.

Physical, tough, smart... Has had years of practice against the world's best.

It is strange, I tell you.

Clutchfans folk are angry, Daryl Morey has them on edge...

We have bold font and "stupid" sightings galore... They push it too far, and I smell some good old fashioned banhammers coming out.

Slightly off tangent, but it would have been bittersweet fun watching Martin on the Orlando Magic, playing the way he was meant to play next to Yao.

Martin is the most undervalued Rocket; but I would guess that he is the most valued by other GMs. He is an elite scorer people: Adelman does weird things with him, he disappears from the floor for a quarter or two (strange), but most teams would likely play him more minutes and he would move from a top ten scorer to a top five scorer. Just guessing. Right now he is likely our only "elite" player, with Scola being close behind.

Gortat is one year younger than Martin.
And his contract is I guess not bad, but it's hardly awesome.

At any rate, it would have been something like Carter and Gortat for Martin. And I would probably say no.

    Good post.

    That begs the questions,

How much do you value an effective young Center on a cheap contract?
    How good is Gortat really?
    What position is more valuable?
Can someone that plays defense as poorly as Kevin Martin be considered elite?
How do we get a center better than Gortat, without giving up "Our most valued player"?

I disagree. I think a young Center with the abilities of Gortat should be making way, way more than what he is making. Pheonix is stoked on him. To bad they have the worst contracts known to man.

Responding to your own thread dozens of times is a sure sign that you haven't carried the day. Give it up while you're still terribly behind.

Backing up the best center in basketball isn't really a good reason to trade the most efficient scorer in the league. KM is an elite talent. Most people just hasn't noticed it because he's not a two way player, and he hasn't played with a big man who mitigated his weaknesses. Yes, the trade would have given us a solid big man, however the cost of losing Kevin Martin is too high.

Besides, him complementing DH would make the Magic the favorites to win it all.

Well if Gortat is doing so amazing what if Robin became available? He's nothing special but a young 7 footer, couldn't be any worse then Hill.

So why was he traded for a backup pf in landry? I'm not sayig I would trade martin or gortat, but when he was being shopped, I wished the rockets would gotten in on the action.

Lowry Martin Battier Chuckwaggon Gortat doesn't sound too bad. If we could still have AB as a 6th man for some O
