the more I think about this the better it sounds, great idea knote

Scola and Martin for Murphy and Favors is intriguing

Bima, new CBA not withstanding, what kind of cap space can we open for 2012?

The plan is to clear enough capspace to go after Deron Williams AND Dwight Howard

    The envisoned lineup:

    Williams
    Martin
    Williams/Lottery pick 2012
    Patterson/Jared Sullinger
    Howard

Salary information in the summer of 2012

    Kevin Martin
    $11,519,840

    Chase Budinger
    $942,293

    Patrick Patterson
    $2,096,760

    11th pick 2011
    $2,126,520

    Terrence Williams
    $3,143,716

    Jordan Hill
    $3,632,527

    9th pick 2012
    $2,356,320

Thats only 24 million in guaranteed salary for 2012. Assuming Williams and Howard takes the max, which is about 15 million each, thats 30 million. 30+15 = 45 million.

The salary cap this season is $56.1 Million

    GO FOR IT MOREY.

I love Deron Williams, but hate the Jazz. Thats not okay?

D-Will is coming to houston. why would howard go to LA to play with a 35 year old kobe on his last legs and be part of a rebuilding process? This years lakers is not even going to win the title, let alone in 2 years time.

You'd want to keep Lee (personal reasons), and Patterson, and Martin as a wing scorer, if we could get someone like Wallace, and clean out the rest to fill up with vets min, that would leave enough to be teetering around the level of 2xMax. (Think a starting lineup of Howard/Patterson/Wallace/Martin/Williams could compete? lol)

Of course it's pie in the sky stuff, but you gotta be in it to win it, and right now our only direction is mediocre to the left of us, mediocre to the right.

If Deron Williams came to Houston I would laugh my ass off.

He would always try to go off on his former team when we play the jazz. Clutchfans would fade in to drunken hedonism after the sadistic irony of beating Utah with him.

Im glad your ass is not the GM, Derrick Favors and Troy Murphy would be a good start? Are you damn kidding me??? Derrick Favors hasnt done shi.t in the NBA and Troy Murphy with his injury prone ass will not be effective on this team, he's not playing a damn minute in Jersey what do you expect him to play better here?

We want Murphy the expiring contract, not Murphy the player.

And Favors has shown some potential, there's a reason he was drafted high.

Sure, I understand what you are saying and I think its great.

I'd just like to suggest a few things, (my personal opinion of course)

I feel Lee is starter material and he is a great player. But he isn't getting any burn here in Houston. His value is much greater somewhere like Chicago. If we can move up the draft from 10 to 5, and it means giving up Lee, then I think its better to move Lee. His cap hold in 2012 is about 6 million so thats a big chunk of capspace that goes to waste.

Wallace, I love Gerald Wallace. But I feel he isn't a fit with Dwight. In Orlando they play 4 3 point shooters and Howard. Gerald isn't a 3 point shooter. So I think while he is a great player, he isn't a fit here with Howard.

    What I would do is:

Trade Lowry/Brooks away for good draft picks/young talent.

    I'd only keep Martin/Patterson/Hill/Williams

The reason is, apart from Martin they would all be on rookie contracts, and only up for renewal during 2013.

But I'm not a NBA GM, so it all depends on what trades we make.

Yup. We shouldn't go after 19 year old, #3 draft picks, because they haven't "done shi.t"...

It's not about being effective, it's about getting rid of salary for 2012.

I like the idea in theory. I guess it depends on what Morey is able to do at the deadline and what the new CBA looks like.

If there is a franchise tag ala the NFL then it probabaly wouldn't work.

The personal issues on Lee aren't mine, they're Dwight's. if you're trying to attract Dwight, you don't trade a close friend away, that and I think he can make a solid combo guard 6th man playing 25-30 mins a game.

Wallace, Orlando's whole 3 point shooting team doesn't work, we got lucky as hell with it in 94 and it may well be the last time any team ever wins a title with that strategy, but there was more to it than that, Hakeem played obscenely well in the post season of 2 successive years, but more than that, we were a better team in 95 because we were using a slasher scorer (injuries hampered our regular season, but post season we beat all comers, in 94 we limped over the line against a Knicks team as quality as the 07 Cavs). Tracy-Yao issues were that Yao was simply too slow to move across to allow it, Dwight has Hakeem's agility, just not his polish.

To add to that, Wallace isn't really about his offense anyway, and I'm not really concerned about him slowing down, because his early issues and what he learned to do was slow himself down, you rarely see the guy hit full speed, he's a ferrari against a bunch of fords, even in 3rd gear, he's still faster than them.

A Paul / Howard would be a nice core to build around.

Two things, if we do what NY did, free space go for Dwight or CP3 we'd end up with.... Kevin Love? haha since they got the 4th best player. And can Houston take a Utah player? I'm pretty sure there's an unspoken law about that.

How nice would that be with the way Morey is able to find talent to go around such stars?

As long as your players are on decent contracts, you can give them away during trade season if need be. I'm sure if Morey needed space to sign Dwight he could trade Luis' 8m or so a year for a 2nd round draft pick and a TE.

err scrap the TE, you could just dop what Riley did with Beasley once he knew he needed space for all 3, and make it a 2nd round pick and nothing else.

I'm actually hoping he could trade Scola to a contender that needs a hustle PF this season, for picks, young talent. Scola is a great role player/ 3rd scoring option and needs a chance now, while we are a few seasons away.
