http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/23489974/ interesting article. This mainly concerns the NFL, but i think there should be b/c you have unproven rookies making more than veteran players. Plus there is the possibility of bust like Jamarcus Russel, Ryan Leaf, and others. thoughts?
The problem is if this happen you will have players contracts ending after 4 years and becoming unrestrictive free agents without proving themselves they would make even more money than the rookie salary cap would prevent them from having without being fully establish. Really its only top 10 picks getting so much money after that usually the salaries are about right. This would just make free agent become more focused on signing player with limited work off of potential.
Is the money redistributed to the other players? How long . . how many years? Let's say 5 yrs? Well most Earl Campbell's career would be under this cap and not he can barely walk . .. well thanks for limiting his money while he sacrificed his body .. and will never be the same Rocket River
I don't get why there isn't yet. The players union should be more concerned about protecting CURRENT players and veterans jobs, not newbies. Yes I realize its not that cut and dry but that should be the stance.
redistribution of teh wealth???????? would like basso's thoughts on the new Socialist Football Leauge.
Top players should be compensated for the 12 years of work they put in to be be top players but the rate has gotten out of whack. I would have no problem with a #1 pick being guaranteed $16 million over a four year rookie deal and the #32 pick somewhere around $8.
Jake Locker might regret not entering the draft after last year both because of his on the field play this year and if they do implement a new rookie cap, he will be losing out on millions and millions that he could have made.
Yes. Paying Glenn Robinson 80 mil was ridiculous and the NBA correctly amended it. The NFL needs to do the same. Rookies shouldn't be the highest paid players on the team.
Rookie salaries are out of hand, but I'm tired of team owners making up rules to protect themselves from themselves. No one is making them pay rookies tens of millions.
