Should the Texans take a look at Terrell Owens?

therealist isn't being very realistic, we have a pretty good receiving corps and they just resigned anderson. I'd rather have kevin walter at this point in their respective careers

I think this is a pretty silly question. WR is the strongest position on this team and we are already heavily invested at this position. We already have arguably the best WR in the game and one of the best #2 guys in Walters. I know he doesn't garner that much love on the national scene, but as a #2 WR if you compare his numbers to the rest of the league's #2s he is high on the list. We have a top 10 catching TE and we have 3 strong guys fighting it out for the #3 WR slot.

    Damn!!!!

Didn't someone just say that EVERY FA that hits the market will come up on this board; " Does so and so fit?" or some crap like that.

You guys gotta realize the Texans don't make big splashes in FA they try and go for the mid level players that don't have big names. So far most have been bad moves.

But no I don't think this would be a smart move on their part, first off he's still gonna wanna get paid, second he has a sh**ty ass attitude and third do they really need him? NO

+ He will want to go to a team on the verge of competing for a ring...

    I say NAW!!!

The Texans (well, under Rick Smith, it's irrelevant what they were under Casserly) have had a few free agent busts, like every team, but by and large they've found very quality players. Walter, Rosenfels, Myers, Reeves, Wilson, Davis, and several others have all been solid contributors. We can even throw Greenwood onto the list, who was a decent player but expendable due to the development of younger guys.

Green (and I still don't think that was as bad a gamble as a lot of people do, he had really only had one injury-plagued year before he came here and played well when healthy) and Weaver were busts, but by and large Smith's signings have worked fairly well.

And outta that whole list you can find one above average player and that's Walter. Don't get me wrong they are doing the right thing by not going after the sought out players yet. But the lesser players they've been pickin up have all pretty much been trash.

They need to build thru the draft and then when they get to the playoffs they should look around at that option. Rosenfels is a back up so I don't consider him that significant, due to the fact that he doesn't play every game, if he was starter that be a different story. And I believe they picked up Myers on a trade. Greenwood just plain blows imo. He does nothing special just occasionally makes a tackle when the ball gets ran his way.

When you have Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels and a very good Kevin Walter, why would you need a Terrel Owens?

And I like what TO can do for a team, he is an elite receiver, but this team really doesn't need him, like how the Cowboys really didn't need that mid season trade for Roy Williams last season. There are several teams, that will no doubt look into TO, since most should know that the Dallas situation was far from completely his fault but the Texans shouldn't be one of them.

And I pray that none of our divisional rivals get him either, since we currently have the best or second best receiving corps in the AFC south right now and TO could hurt us if we had to go against him.

Myers was a restricted free agent who was treated like a free agent, and the Texans gave the Broncos a late-round pick at the last minute to save the trouble of waiting a week over whether they would match. Moreover, I can't think of anyone they've picked up that's been trash, save Weaver and maybe Green. Most people considered Greenwood an average player -- you're right, he didn't do anything special, but that doesn't make you horrible. That makes you average. But even if we toss Greenwood into that group, that's three -- a far cry from all. They don't have any stars in that group, but as you said, that's not the purpose. The purpose is to acquire solid complementary pieces, and with a couple of exceptions, Smith has done very well at that.

They haven't made any really bad free agent decisions in the Kubiak era.

They did make some bad ones during the Capers era though.

Other than Roosevelt Colvin, I completely agree with you.

How can Colvin be considered a really bad decision? He was brought in on the cheap to compete for a spot and didn't work out. They didn't guarantee him a big salary.

Colvin was basically a no risk proposition. Green has been Kubiak's worst FA decision IMO.

Honestly would you consider that a Kubiak/Smith move or more of a Mike Sherman move?

I mean he seemed to be really high on him before they signed and unfortunately he just couldn't stay healthy.

    Chris Brown signing....

If the Texans didnt have so many issues on defense I'd actually think about it once or twice. The Texans are so bland an organization there wouldnt be much for Owens to mouth off about

Even if the Texans wanted Owens, which I doubt they do....I do not think Owens would want to play for the Texans

Yeah I'd say the Brown and Green signings were both pretty bad. Brown was more useless and a waste of some cap space, where Green was a major bust.

I wish the Texans would take more chances on players with a checkered past.

TO is not one though hes 35 and on the downside of his career. Plus all the baggage that goes with him...And our WRS are probaly the biggest strength of the team

i disagree. they've busted on the bigger, splashier, more expensive names (namely weaver and to a lesser extent green) - but matt turk has been a wonderful signing; so, too, have brisiel, leach and ferguson. add walter to that list and that's four starters right there. if they can find another starter with the rosenfels pick (not unlikely), you could add a 5th. and they've managed to find depth up and down the roster - bulman, robinson, white...

i think their "failure" in free agency has been completely overblown. no, they haven't signed a michael turner-type impact player - but the above guys certainly weren't trash.

hell to tha no...you know, I love his work ethic and committment to the game, but we all know how his personality creates friction...

I think he'll go to someone that is on the verge of winning and someone that can handle him...although, no team comes to mind right now that fits that criteria...

I was thinking last night... what if the Patriots decide they want to pick him up???

More than likely not, but they may think that they can control his behavior since they have dealt with players with the same attitude.

My guess would be either the Giants or the Redskins. Expecially the way the Skins throw around $$$.
