I guess this is a sort of applicable update:

As usual, the comments below the story are revoltingly idiotic.

"The moderate Muslim voice has been squashed in America"

if that's true, then moderate muslims have only themselves to blame.

"Here is a chance to allow moderate Muslims to teach people that not all Muslims are terrorists."

great idea. but ground zero is not the place to do it. try atlantic avenue.

Wow, just wow. The moderate mulsim voice is squashed in America because Americans can only handle extremes. We either want 100% support images posted or "Death to Isreal" ones posted. Moderate tend not to speak loudly or take one side over another, hence the moderate tag. The real people to blame here are and have always have been the extremists. I'm not just talking about extremist muslims, I'm also talking about extremist Democrats and Republicans.

Above all, I really get the sense from you, that you think Muslim Americans are second class citizens if you say crap like that. Heck, I'm not even Muslim and I find myself offended.

The moderate Muslims are probably hoarse from repeating themselves over and over. You just don't want to hear them.

I really don't care what they do. They weren't responsible, so that makes them no different than Christians wanting to build a church there IMO. Being of Muslim faith doesn't stop you from being an American.

not at all, and part of my point is the "moderate" voice has not been squashed, unless it's been done proactively by those who profess to be "moderates." speak up- the world needs to hear what you have to say.

As others have pointed out many times before, they are speaking up. You just refuse to listen.

I thought this was in poor taste by the group building the mosque until I found out that the mosque is 2 blocks away. Two blocks in Manhattan is like 2 miles in Houston. This really isn't an issue at all.

Really surprised this has not been pointed out earlier. It is not really ground zero if it is two full blocks away, it is near ground zero perhaps. The mention that it is being built on "ground zero" seems like typical media-fed hype and misinformation to create a story where there is none.

I cant believe I actually read those comments at the bottom, it is fine I guess but it is sad that so many people are that ignorant. I guess my Muslim friends were right all along. Kinda sad but perhaps not unexpected.

depends on the blocks and the neighborhood. the JCC is 5 blocks from my apt, yet feels very close. the school of ethical culture is likewise 5 blocks away, but feels like the other side of the moon.

also, crosstown and north/south blocks are completely different.

How many presidents have visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

That should about answer the question.

But Iran had nothing to do with 9/11. Iran actually mourned the deaths of Americans.

In that case, logical and rational human beings everywhere should never honor or heed those illogical or irrational feelings.
