Oakland's park isn't very hitter friendly, however, so if he moved to St. Louis you could see his numbers go up slightly. He's probably, on average, a .300/30/100 kind of guy, which is pretty good protection for Pujols.
But his stats with Oakland include his road games (i.e. more games not played at Coors). The numbers say his production this year (both home and road) are similar to the numbers he put up when not playing at Coors. And his power production at home this year is better than on the road.
On ESPN radio this morning they were expecting his numbers to also benefit by moving to a better team where he would get protection.
Anyway, this trade is bittersweet for me. My fantasy team has Pujols and Holliday, but I fear the effect it'll have on the Central Division.
good move for the Cards. Holliday has regained his mojo, and should be pretty successful in STL But they had to give up Wallace. and because of that, I'm not too upset about the move. I think we still have a shot at the division considering how close we are right now.. and STL's longterm future definitely took a relatively big hit based on everything I've heard about Wallace
Agree and from what I've read Holliday will taste the free agent market so he could be a 3 month rental at best for one the best prospects around. Billy Beane is laughing all the way to the bank...He traded for Holiday with this in mind and it worked perfectly!
That's pretty funny, actually. Holliday talks were ice cold until a day or two ago. Perhaps we should put it this way: we swept them into damaging their future for a quick fix.
i'd imagine holliday stays there. why would anybody leave the "best baseball town in the world"?? let's put it this way: we swept them into trading away players who may or not ever be good in exchange for a borderline superstar who will undoubtedly improve their team.
I hope none of you seriously think that one series, even had the combined score been 45-0, had any significant influence on the Cardinals making this deal. These are highly trained executives who scout and work on these types of things for months, not irrational, emotional amateurs who overreact to one series.
Money...Wallace from what I read was a darn good prospect and if they dont sign him this offseason....!
Wallace is a good prospect, but the reports I've seen have said he can't play 3rd in the pros and will need to move, probably to 1st base. That MIGHT be a problem had he stayed in St. Louis.
yeah, great point. i'm sure if they were 20 games ahead in the central, and had just swept us, they would have traded for holliday today anyway. if you don't think the up-to-date-standings as a result of being swept by us had ANY bearing on forcing their hand to make that trade, you're nutso.
They're a lot more worried about the Cubs than us, and with good reason. And no, whether they were 3.5 games up or 1.5 games up would've meant absolutely nothing as to whether they made that trade.
If you can get Roy Halladay without giving up contributing everyday players like Pence and Bourn, you do it. The NL Central is there for the taking. If this team could get in the playoffs with a rotation of both Roys and Wandy they would have a great shot to advance. That is worth selling off the farm again.
I hadn't heard/read that in anything, though my (brief) reading on him was done before this season to be honest.
