Florida just hammered the consensus #1 team. The only undefeated team from a power conference. And now you want to give the National Championship to someone else, anyone else? I would probably vote Boise #2, but Florida lost one game after playing the statistically toughest schedule in College Football. They deserve their National Championship.
Yet another example of how bad this system is. But Florida manhandled Ohio State, and Boise had to pull out a bag of tricks to beat an avg Oklahoma team after going undefested in the pitiful WAC. But look at Auburn they beat both Florida and LSU, who were both 41-14 winners over OSU and ND. Auburn could have a beef, Boise could, USC could. To be perfectly honest, USC is the best team in the country, I don't know what they were doing vs. UCLA, but I think on both sides of the ball they were the best. It just goes to show that you can't lose a host of great players to the NFL, AJ Hawk, Donte Whitner, Nick Mangold, Santonio Holmes, Ashton Youboty,Bobby Carpenter, Anthony Schlegel all in 1 yr and win a championship. This also goes to show how overrated Michigan was.
uh, what about against Oregon State too? I'm sorry, but no 2-loss team should ever have a claim as 'best team in the country'
By making the poll question "split the title vote for a playoff" it's now a political statement, and not an honest opinion of who the #1 is. If you think BSU should be 1, then ok, if you thnk FL should be #1, then ok, but if you think you're bringing downt he system by voting for BSU, maybe you should put "V for Vendetta" back in the DVD player.
Florida is undisputed and it's not even close. As others said, look at the schedules. Boise State needs to start playing 4 or 5 ranked teams in a season before they're gonna be considered for anything higher than what they were this year.
Don't forget that Boise won at Oregon State pretty decisively. The Big 10 was a really bad conference this year. USC beating Michigan was meaningless.
A lot of voters thought Michigan was better than Florida but didn't want to see a rematch in the title game so they put Florida #2. If USC hadn't have lost their last game, UMich would have been ranked ahead of Florida going into the bowls. So yes, voters do vote differently to make a point of change the outcome of something.
The problem with it is that Boise State, who all this discussion is about, STILL wouldn't have a chance to prove or disprove themselves. With a 4-team this question would still be out there.
Florida wasn't undefeated. If they were people might still be screaming that Boise deserved a shot but probably not that they should get a split of the championship.
Boise State needed overtime and trick plays to defeat #7 Oklahoma. They're 1-0 against the Top 25. That is not correct. Against the final USA today top 25 BSU was 3-0. The AP had Hawaii at #26.
To anyone who thought Florida is a consensus National Champion, I have to laugh. They deserved the win, but to claim them as the best team this year just shows how much we need a playoff in the NCAA. Every person wants it other than the sponsers. My take has always been to let the smaller bowls host the preliminary games. Even though my Tech team played in the second-best bowl game this year, I'd be willing to let all bowl eligible teams play for the NC. Hell, even if Tech were cut out this year, I'd still accept it.
What the hell, Boise State is SIXTH in the Coaches Poll? (and 5th in the AP with on renegade voter giving them a 1st place vote)
While I don't disagree about needing a playoff, how was Florida not the best team this year? They only lost one game with an extremely difficult SEC schedule, and then proceeded to manhandle the "consensus #1" team. If Boise played Florida's schedule they would lose at least 3-4 games.
Which is why a playoff is important. Before tonight, nobody would've said Florida was #1. They were barely #2. Most folks wanted to see a michigan rematch. Screw BCS. Have every bowl game as it is, but make the winner face each other in the next tiered bowl, etc. You'll lose roughly 20 teams, but nat'l interest will skyrocket. Have the lower tired bowls be the preliminaries. Make it just like march madness. Peeople would love it. I'd go into promotions in this idea, but people say I'm annoying.
Should Boise State be number 1? Are you Fing kidding me? Maybe if they scheduled someone for ONCE in their lives. SEC will always win no matter how much the media backs someone else no matter how nifty the Pac 10 or Big 10 looks. SEC WILL ALWAYS OWN EVERYONE. ALWAYS. Make it a friggin rule....
And PS... If this was the case. The 8 team playoff... Boise State wouldnt be there. Nor should they be! LSU and FLORDIA. Thats a national championship... SEC should be its own league...
