Charles has tremendous breakaway speed, but he is smallish for an every down NFL back.

I fail to see anyone who said these guys we're mentioning are better than McFadden.. clearly you like the guy. We just don't think the Texans will have a shot at him.

Just curious, what are you basing your facts on? The hype or statistics? I know he's a real special player but which RB in college has been producing? Kevin Smith and Jonathan Stewart aren't slouches. They've produced and are legitimate prospects. To say he is WAY better is a reach.

Reggie Bush was drafted number 2 in the same draft that had joseph addai late in that round. Addai has been producing better numbers than Bush. Bush was all hype. Could the same be said about Mcfadden?

I'd be ecstatic with Stewart. If we drafted in the top 5 and had a shot at Mcfadden, I'd trade him for Stewart and more picks. I think both RB will be difference makers in the NFL.

Guess some team told him what he wants to hear, if he is there in the 3rd, I hope the Texans pick him up. He still has a lot of work to do but he has unbelievable talent.

As for the Horns, hopefully this gives us a better chance at Darrell Scott (#1 RB in the country). He could literally come in and get signficant PT right away.

Great....have to go through next season with people complaining about how they didn't draft the "hometown" guy.

I don't know about you but I don't really consider being from Port Arthur a "hometown" guy.

Jamaal made a monkey out of me...so much for Mack's guys not coming out.
I'd guess some agent got in his ear or maybe it was Mack angling for a top recruit.

I would take him at 18 because I just love his speed; but I don't see him being a dead solid guarantee for a 1st round pick. Draftek had Jonathon Stewart rated as the 42nd. best player in the draft..before the juniors started declaring and had Houston taking Rashard Mendenhall. They had Chris Johnson who runs a 4.27 rated as a second rounder. Stewart is 235 lbs. but only runs a 4.6 Mendenhall is a junior, runs under 4.5 at 210.

I think the kid is making the wrong choice, he needs to get a little stonger,
win some awards and beat the fumbler label.

    But, he didn't ask me.

What's the buzz on Orangebloods about Darrell Scott? The freshman at USC looked pretty good yesterday..he probably doesn't want to get stuck there.

And yes SE Texas, UT players are hometown guys.

Hmmm ... I saw on one of those draft board comparisons that Stewart ran a 4.45 in 40 combine that with 5-10 230# frame and you have bad things that can happen man. :p If you can't get Turner then this is an option though I think the Texans will opt for OL with their first pick or trade down in a attempt to gain multiple picks for 2nd and/or 3rd.

I don't think that will be an issue with Charles

Yeah, I don't know where the 4.6 for Stewart came from. I've heard some rumors that Stewart can run a sub 4.4, but I'll believe it when I see it.

jonathan stewart ran a hand timed 4.34 at oregon, so somewhere in the low 4.4 area is what id expect from him

I just don't understand how Jamal will pan out in the NFL.

I don't think he can withstand the punishment of being an everydown back in the NFL - a la Reggie Bush

He'd be great at returning kicks/punts with those glorious moves, cuts, and ability to see 2 steps ahead.

I have a feeling he'll go the route of Desmond Howard - big name comes into the NFL - labeled a bust - then finds a niche as a returner...

He really needs to bulk up - but that could cause him to risk losing his speed - his greatest asset.

Didn't you know anyone who plays at UT is a "hometown" guy? That's how it seems to work.

Jamal is the third best rb prospect in the draft behind McFadden and Mendenhal. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch taking him at 18. He reminds me of Clinton Portis who slipped to the early 2nd and that was a huge mistake by the Texans not drafting him at 31. Hopefully though he slips to the Titans b/c his speed would be the ideal compliment to Vince.

Taking Charles at 18 would be a big stretch IMO, and this is coming from a Longhorn. He has a ton of talent but is still pretty raw, has had fumbling issues, and has yet to show he can be a workhorse.

Also, the Titans drafted Chris Henry last year in the 2nd after running a great 40 at the combine, they also have L. White. The last thing they need is another RB.

expect portis is a little shorter and weighs 30 more lbs. charles at 18 is a HUGE stretch...especially with him coming out early. If he stayed another year, maybe but not this year. Plus, there are a ton of good RBs coming out. I might see someone taking a chance on him late in the 1st, but I'd expect him to go mid 2nd round. Then again, if he adds some bulk and keeps his speed up for a the combine...anything is possible.
