Noooooooooooooooooooooooo I dont care what you say but Rudy is tha best coach ever--he may not have those 9 rings but he has a great coaching record and he did it without 2 allstar players on his team. Even if we dont make the playoffs HES STAYING!

Eh? I think the idea that Rudy should get a free pass because of all the youngsters is somewhat amusing. Especially coming from some people who believe Francis is a franchise player.

This will be Steve's 4th year for on the team. It will be Mobley's 5th. The "core" has been there for a long time now. If Rudy can't do reasonably well with it, then why does he deserve to have even more talent?

I mean, if Yao, Eddie, and Nachbar all pan out and the Rockets win, it won't mean that Rudy's a good coach... but simply that he had a starting 5 to make the rest of the league tremble.

Now, I also happen to think that Rudy should still be our coach, even after last year (when some players seemed to give up). But I think the idea of a free pass is silly. Coaches only get those the first couple of years of rebuilding. That's finished.

The 45 win team a couple of years ago gave us hope. Now it's time to see that hope come to fruition with success.

If the Rockets finish behind what will be a horrible Utah Jazz team, then Rudy should not only be fired, he should be imprisoned. Reaching the playoffs, as well as finishing above Utawful, is a must.

The Rockets, talent-wise, are right up there with the top three teams in the west. All they lack is experience. The playoffs should come easily.

As I read it, the consensus is that Rudy the Coach has let down Rudy the GM. Hopefully, all this will be moot as we make the playoffs in 2002.

Worst case, we should "promote" Rudy to GM, let CD consult, and get a big time proven coach.

I agree with the respect to Jerry Sloan.

I have seen the Rox bungle game winning situations time and again, with the "dribble, dribble and heave" play.

I'd like to see Francis/Griff execute the pick and roll like Stockton/Malone. I can't stand the fact that nobody on our team seems to know how to set a HARD pick.

Remember 1 thing Rudy could have gone to a winning team. Instead he stayed here and is trying to rebuild.

I really like Rudy and want him to retire from the Rockets organization: however, if he continues to allow this team, or God forbid, coach this team to not pass, not move, not play defense, not think, and continue mindless isolations and incessant dribbling which produces few wins, no entertainment, and much suffering, well, may God help him. Come on Rudy, make last year a distant memory, save yourself and the fans!

What good is that talent, if it doesn't come to fruition? GS has better looking talent than we do...

With a comment like that, you should be back on welfare in no time.

What does it matter what he did 8 or 9 years ago? Using that logic, why don't we bring back Otis Thorpe.

This is a moot point. The Rockets will make the playoffs. The better question is how long before Rudy wants to retire?

Your analogy is not very good. Coaches are considered "old" in their 60s. Players on the other hand are considered "old" in their mid 30s. Rudy is better than most other coaches because of his experience.

There's nothing that's holding us down, barring injury, that we should not be in the playoffs. Coaches get fired for different reasons and one of them is not improving the team.

I think when we won the lottery, Rudy's job was already safe for this year. But his past tendencies like sticking to the same plays, and slowly bringing out rookies won't work this year. I disagree that moral victories will be good enough. We have to make the playoffs to look toward something greater. But with a healthy corps, and a fat extension for Steve, if Rudy can't make it, then his coaching and leadership will come into quesiton. No matter how well liked he is by the players and fans, things will have to change.

You know, after all these years, I still don't know if I like Rudy as a coach. I love him as a players' coach and I loved him as a player. And I loved him when we had Hakeem. But I still don't know if he's a good or very good coach without him. Even so, I really hope he is and I'm rooting for him.

I don't think this next year is make or break for him. Last year was a wash. It just didn't count. None of our key players ever played more than fifteen games in a row together and we had so many injuries we wound up starting every single player on the team at one point or another. And now two of our key players are rookies. The important thing this year is to see some real success that doesn't rely on dumping it down to Dream, Charles backing it in or Steve/Cat ISO's.

This team should be a playoff team. At the very least it should be an exciting team, a la Dallas and Sacramento from a couple years back. If it's not, I think it'll be clear whether that's Rudy or the greenness of our team.

But even if Doc hadn't said it in another thread some time ago, I'd never believe Les would fire Rudy the year before they go into the new arena.

As for the credit people are giving Jerry Sloan... Um... Gross. Malone and Stockton have been running that stuff for a million years. That's not Sloan. That's those other jerks. And if any other coach, including Rudy, was willing to win by drilling dirty, illegal tactics into their team, they could be successful the way Sloan is, too. Of all those Jazz, I hate him the most. He's unbearable in an interview and he's unbearable on the sidelines. I'd rather have an autistic toaster as coach than Jerry Sloan.

WHat should be taken into consideration is that, remove Nachbar and Ming, this team was expected to make the playoffs last year. But then, injuries happened. So shouldn't we be under the impression we're playoffs plus Ming and Nachbar?

We're UNDOUBTEDLY playoff material. I'd go as far as saying 25 current head coaches can take our team to the playoffs. Rudy is much betetr than most of them, so I expect AT LEAST 8th seed.

Rudy is a great coach but the fact is that his coaching skills this season were horrible . Rudy has all the tools to get us to the playoffs and if the team would miss the playoffs next year and play in the same crappy style, i think that the best move would be hiring a new coach .
