Hi guys, I'm currently writing a speech for my debate class about "Why People Should Carry Guns" and wanted to know how everyone else felt about this topic/issue.
Are you sure the question is: "Should People Carry Guns?" Or is it: "Should People Not Carry Guns?" I don't think anyone argues that people should carry a gun. The issue is whether or not carrying a gun should be disallowed.
Yes, with conditions. -You don't have a criminal record. -You don't have a mental illness or anger issues. -You go through some from of training that stress gun responsibility -Never at bars or establishment where alcohol is involved. -Sign and understand an easy to read agreement stating the consequences of improper gun use. -Understand that it's strictly for self defense. In fact, I think they should teach gun responsibility as elective in high school and treat gun abuse just like they do with drinking and driving.
I'm suppose to give key points to why people should carry guns. My thesis revolves around, the fact that people should be able to protect themselves with a firearm, criminals will not stop even if there are gun control laws.
You're supposed to give key points why people should be allowed to carry guns. Right? That's different from arguing that people should be obligated to carry guns.
Yes, we need our guns to take this country back from the terrorists that currently run it. Barack Hussein Osama, IMO! Let patriotism and freedom ring!
When is it due? If you have time go to any library and check out More Guns, Less Crime. It explains all of the classic arguments.
I would say no. I don't think concealed firearms would deter crime significantly. And in many cases, people who are robbing a business just want the money, not to shoot the place up and kill people. However, if some vigilante patrons bust out their firearms and challenge the criminal(s) to a firefight, people are going to get shot or die, and there is a very high probability that it will be an unarmed bystander.
Also, don't forget what Thomas Washington said about watering the tree of liberty with patriot blood sometimes to make it grow better.
I know that this is a common question for anybody that is debating this topic, but does anybody believe that Gun Control is unconstitutional? According to the Second Amendment “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”
Yes and no. (violent) Felons or the mentally ill should not be allowed to carry weapons. Certain establishments, like schools, churches, airports, and certain stores (especially in the city) can have policies of not allowing guns for obvious reasons. Other than that, I do not see the problem in letting people carry guns or at least have them in their vehicles.
Carrying a gun should be mandatory. It would eliminate all crime because the criminals would know that they were always going to face hot steel. Besides, with health care reform, we'll all have coverage.
