Do they not shoot the free throws on the court? I suppose our players shouldn't try to get the '2 for 1' scenarios at the end of a quarter either, since that is some kind of jedi mind trick.... the 'hack-a-whomever' tactics can get boring, but the very simple way to avoid it is to make free throws. Not really acceptable for players to shoot sub 50% from the free throw line in the NBA. Ok, so we have Dorsey and Smith in the squad. If they start hacking, quickly change to Howard and Jones.
I wouldn't until they start doing it to us and admit they're troubled. Keep leaving that 3 point shot wide open for him and let him stall their offense. That's just as bad as his free throw shooting.
well, Spurs fouled Josh for more than 20 shots, and he didnt shoot better than 45%, only 1 or 2 times he scored both FTs, so I dont think that he is going to shot better if he keeps going to the FT line.
Maybe, maybe not. Early in the year Mavs played unbelievable on offense: hack-a strategy would disrupt that. HOWEVER, their offense became stagnant, incidentally, after the trade for Rondo, soo... In other words, just having Rondo on the floor maybe a better disruption of their offense than making him shoot FTs
Haha, great point, hopefully if they did do the hack on him, he'd still be allowed to stay in, my concern is if they bench rondo and another guard comes in or Ellis runs point it could help their offense... Lately rondo has basically been a perfect sabotage since everyone becomes stagnant, It's starting to be clear that the big 3 in boston basically made him look a lot more valuable than he really is, hopefully he shared his salary with them, hahaha
Absolutely not. We should leave him wide open and give him mid-range to long-distance shots until he proves he can make them and we should crowd the passing lanes anywhere near the paint. We don't need to funnel the defense to Dwight if he can't hit his shots. We can simply congest the paint instead.
Nahhh... we going to win this game because not only is Harden going to bring it, Dwight and Josh Smith want some rings.
If they ever go on a run of making even 3 consecutive FG attempts and are in the penalty I would throw in the hack to disrupt the momentum and their offensive plan. I don't care if we're in the lead or not. We need to make sure Dirk and mOnta NEVER get hot and have to break their rhythm whenever they do. Force Carlisle to bench Rondo which would leave an inferior defender on harden to wreck havoc
Do what has to be done, but this can be averted by the Rockets not letting things get close enough for that strategy to be necessary from either bench.
Rajon is one of the craftiest players in the league. His FTr is lower than all but 22 players that played over 1500 minutes this year. He attempts 1.4 free throws per 36 minutes. Only about 15 players in the whole league that play over 1500 minutes have less attempts per 36 minutes. He averages 1.9 FTA's per 100 possessions. Only 16 players that played over 1500 minutes averaged less. Conclusion: We're wasting our time trying to foul Rondo. He's too smart, too crafty, knows how to hide, knows how to glue himself to the opponent's best offensive player (Harden) so that he can't get fouled for a time, knows how to find empty space on the court, and he's quick enough to avoid hacking for the good majority of the time. The rest of the time....the Mavs will just take him out for Barea. Hacking over.
If they do it to us, we should retaliate, then the league will probably do something about it. The Clippers are also goign to get hacked to death by the Spurs.
I'd rather it not come down to it but if it's between hacking Rondo and advancing or playing straight up D and losing then it's obvious which option I'd go with.
