Give him one more year before deciding if he should get an extention or not.

Ya, he didnt do so well last year, but in all honesty there were alot of factors that he couldnt control. He had some poor decision making during the season, but the only way to see what he can do is let him coach with the new Yao and a healthy Tmac. If we arent heading toward a 50+ win season by all-star break, can him.

Whoever voted for his contract to be extended is a complete dumb ass.

Give me one single good reason why anyone would want him as a coach?

Solid, if you get rid of Lindsey who in hell in our organization has experience in running basketball operations? I'm unhappy about Morey's hire but I'm adamant that someone, anyone has a real solid basketball background.

On a lighter note whoever posted his hypothesis of what flavor of ice-cream JVG would be were he to be ice-cream seriously cracked me up, and really disturbed me.

I think a change in our head coach may be a good start for this summer!

I love every minutes of Van Gundy coaching. Les should extend his contract for 10 more years.

While I think he should eventually be fired. I would rather give him one more chance next season with better players and our main players healthy, then give him a fair shot and if he does not do exceptionally well, then fire him and replace with Phil Jackson at the end of next season. ;)

I don't know Lindsey or anything about him. All I know is that MANY of the trades, drafts, personnel transactions, contracts, etc. over the last ten years have been very poor decisions. "Management" is ultimately responsible for these stupid moves and the team going nowhere. If I were the owner, I would clean house. The Francis era went nowhere, and now the Ming/TMac era (two of the best players in the history of basketball) is going nowhere. Injuries, yes, but the failure to surround them with the right role players is ridiculous. Maybe this is why Morey is here.

I would not extend him simply because there is no good reason to do it. He is already under contract for two more years, the second at our option. If he does not turn the club around with a (hopefully) healthy Yao and TMac, then we can opt out at the end of next year as long as there is someone better to take his place.

To address the suggestions that have been made as far as specific coaches:

Rick Adelman is safe for next year unless the Kings tank, which is not too likely given that they have been one of the hotter teams in the league since Artest was brought in. Of course, if Artest has one of his patented implosions, that becomes more likely and I wouldn't mind bringing him in if he is fired and JVG hasn't improved the Rox.

Phil Jackson is going to be a Laker coach for quite some time. He is under contract for two more years and he has done an outstanding job bringing the Lakers to the playoffs with the (dearth of) talent he had to work with. PJax is a pipe dream.

I think that Rudy's problem had more to do with SF3's lack of maturity than anything else. He has shown that he can coach veterans, which we are loaded with, and he has shown that he can coach the inside-out game, which we can run to perfection. Bringing him on to groom Elie is the most attractive suggestion I have seen.

That being said, IMO, JVG should be allowed to run the club, albeit on a short leash, next year so that we can ascertain whether the problem was him or the injuries this year. Besides, it is not like Les will want to buy out JVGs contract before he has the option of declining the last year. I would see it as highly unlikely that JVG is working for anybody but the Rox until at least April of next year.
