I'm undecided on the Mayoral race but I know I'm voting NO on the Rail proposition. Something needs to be done to ease conjestion from the burbs to the city but I don't think rail is the answer. IMO it costs too much and will benifit too few. Especially someone like me who lives in the city. I don't care if it takes you an hour to get from the burbs to Downtown. You chose to live in the burbs so you must deal with the traffic that comes along with your decision. Just like I have to deal with the problems that come along with living in side the loop.

I'm voting for Bill White and No for rail.

In short, White seems he will be the superior manager of the City's existing projects and I am still impressed enough with Mayor Bob's time as mayor that I willing to go on his recomendation ( one last time).

But light rail is a black hole for tax money that provides no traffic relief.

I posted earlier in the thread about your monorail. I'm wondering if that was ever discussed. It sounds more practical, not to mention cheaper. I'm down.

    DOWN

Still not sure about Mayor. I didn't like the things White was saying about illegal...er, "undocumented workers".

    Me three.

And for those of you that are against the rail plan and complaining about the losses that will occur, do you even realize that METRO today loses $614,000 a DAY. Public transportation is meant to run at a loss and then be subsidized, that's the whole point. So your argument that rail will be operated at a loss is useless.

Not when that loss is in the MILLIONS of dollars a year and doesn't improve traffic.

For those of you voting for rail, why are you? I think MadMax you live in our old neighborhood now, you know rail will do nothing for you there correct? I don't understand why anyone living on the outer edges would vote for any kind of rail. Unless you think it's some kind of necessary investment in the infrastructure of the city or something, I don't understand.

You can go to the link and see the report for yourself if you're interested.

But the figures I put in there are listed as "operating expenses".

Remember, it is for the entire DART system, not just the trains.

Not voted yet, but I'm for it. I live downtown so it just makes sense for me. :)

Well then of course the question would be why you think it's a necessary investment if such a limited portion of Houstonians will actually end up benefitting from this hefty expenditure.

T_J, it seems increasingly obvious that your collective oeuvre on this BBS has now reached the point where people seem to intentionally advocate positions opposed to yours solely because you endorse a certain position. Quite amusing.

Kudos, my friend, a better world thanks you.

I'm voting "NO" on Nov. 4th.

we need commuter/suburban rail. Not light rail

Why don't we just replace the HOV lanes on major freeways with pillars which contain an elevated, high-speed train that feeds people into and out of the city?

We wouldn't have to close any freeways, and it would be an excellent solution for our rail woes. Building rail stations would be an issue, but I would think a few architects could figure it out.

I voted for the rail already. I also convinced my two dead grandfathers to vote "yes" as well. Three votes from my camp!

I also voted for Sanchez because it has been since Bush left that HISD schools have been performing well. Maybe Sanchez can create amazing success with the schools just like he did for all of those businesses he ran. Then, the success can be nationally reported just like in 2000.

I should be planning this sh*t. I would put a highspeed train that would take folks from the burbs to downtown and then a rail to move people all around downtown. I'd also include some kind of property tax cut for people who get and actually use an anual metro card.

Of course that would cost more than any plan out there.

Sam, this is just typical curmudgeonry from you. What you do not see are the numerous emails I receive on a regular basis from those who share my conservative positions on issues. These emails sustain me. They let me know that I am acting as the voice of many and am a champion for their cause. Furthermore, what you do not see is the high number of CC.Net conservatives who do not feel the need to post on a regular basis. These folk are quite content with the direction of politics -- a decidedly conservative trajectory. There will always be more who complain rather than celebrate, and this is reflected by the overwhelming liberal bias in the D&D. Clearly, the liberals have had a vast number of policy and political failures over the past few years. This is reflected through the frustration and desperation that you see on a daily basis from the usual suspects of liberal hate mongers.

I have revolutionized how people post in the D&D forum. My techniques and styles are frequently mimicked and adopted. Often imitated, yet rarely equaled, my impeccable logic and superior debating skills are the benchmark of quality. I have raised the level of debate to new heights.

VOTE NO TO THE METRO PROPOSAL

My style is too broad in scope to be a derivative of anything.
