Depends on a how much you use it. I'm a pretty heavy computer user; it took me about a week to get comfortable and about a month to think 'mac'. Now I can't sit down to a computer without trying to move the mouse to the corners (expose) to toggle windows. There are admittedly a lot of r****ded things OSX does/doesn't do. One thing that irks me to no end is the Adobe Photoshop in OSX doesn't give you a background to work on. Besides the photo you're working out, you see the desktop/whatever other windows are open behind it. It's just plain dumb. And I much prefer Office 2007 (with Outlook) to Office 2008 (with Entourage). I keep a virtualbox installation of XP Pro to deal with all the **** OSX can't/won't do.
You can fix that...somewhere in the options you can turn on that gray background. Just look for it in the tabs.
I don't think you've seen Bebop's posts. He does this in every thread either to troll or to persuade people who are going to buy Apple products to not buy them at all. He also labels people like me as Apple fanboys because I own two Apple products.
Funny how this thread got derailed completely because of bunch of haters who has not given one bit of insightful advice.
Hack Pro here and it runs great. I dual boot to windows if I want to game a little bit. No crashes ever, fast, and it updates very well (save the 10.6.2 rollback for audio). Recently learned that it does needs maintenance, and can get bogged down over time, just like windows though, but it's a little bit less of a hassle. I'm more computer dumb than I was with windows, but am more productive as a result. I like not having to think about disabling services and shutting down anti-virus, or loading another hardware profile, when I get ready to do some music tracks. I also coverted my laptop to a hackintosh. Turns out I had one of the few laptops that matches up well with snow leopard. The Dell Inspiron E series (E1505 and E1705) are great laptops for osx with only a few tweaks. And they're cheap if you but one off of eBay.
This. People who complained about Windows doesn't know stuffs about technologies. Just buy whatever marketing campaign Steve Job throw out.
never understood having to justify your preference by thrashing others. ive never used a macbook other than the odd 10-20 mins at the apple shop. am thinking of buying a system just to check it out, but so far couldnt justify paying for the price. the new macbook air isnt too expensive by apple standards i guess. $400 is a steal btw. hope u got it.
is there anything more pathetic than mac haters? it is fascinating and mind-boggling why anyone would care what computer someone else is using. you guys really need to get a life.
Stop denying it. You are a pathetic Apple fanboy that call everyone a troll every time someone give Apple a negative comments that are facts and defending them to no end. As I recalled you own 3 iPhone in 1 yr. From 3G, 3Gs to iPhone 4. What it's like to own a Apple Product
So, when I've asked you in the past how you determined how I was an Apple fanboy, you continued to ignore it. Do you have an answer now? I don't call anyone a troll other than you, in fact, I don't even care about the negativity. It's when you start making baseless claims, such as this one which make you look stupid. I would have no problem being an Apple fanboy if I was one, I wouldn't be ashamed to admit it. And yes, of course I defend the products I own because I own them. There's a reason why I bought the item and enjoyed it. Most of the time it's personal preference, which I have previously stated quite a bit. Yes, I did have those 3 iPhones because I liked the first iPhone and I got the other two iPhones for free. I still only own two Apple products, so I don't know where you're going with that. The fact is, if I was an Apple fanboy, I wouldn't be using a PC or be thinking about getting an Android phone or anything like that. The part that you don't get about getting phones or computers or whatever is after you've stated the cons, you continue to blabber about how stupid it would be to get one. At that point, it's the person's preference if he/she wants to buy something after looking at the good and the bad.
I think we'd all be a lot better off if we deleted the term "fan boy" from our vocabulary. It makes you sound like you are 10 years old.
That wasn't analysis, that's pretty much the observation from all the points people listed against PC and the rebuttals ITT. My contribution actually was way at the beginning of the thread, citing overpriced and overrated product. If OP can get 2nd hand for cheaper price, I have no problem as well.
To the OP : it seems cheap enough - get it if you want to play around with the OS and see if you like it. Assuming $400 isn't too much for an experiment, anyway. I have a Macbook I no longer use - I had to wait while it updated, too. I had to restart the machine while it updated - every time from what I recall. Most of Windows' updates don't require you wait the multiple times you stated. As a matter of fact very few of them do. I scan for viruses automatically on schedule. My software updates itself. And FYI : Windows Defender isn't much of an antivirus program - it's more of a pop-up/spyware blocker. There are 3rd party apps and even an MS app that allow you to have multiple desktops. I haven't used any of them, because I haven't had a need to yet. This is called the Preview Pane in Windows 7, and yes, I know how awesome it is to be able to look at a Word document without opening Word because of it. lol.
Why does that make OS X more powerful? How about I ask you how many installations of Mathematica there are on Mac OS vs. Windows? How about how many more businesses use Windows vs. Macs? What about on the Internet backbone - how many servers are Windows-based vs. Apple? Database servers? Does any of this mean one is more "powerful" than the other? All it means is each has its own niche.
I haven't fully ready through the whole thread so my apologies if I'm stating what someone has already said. I definitely say wait on it. $400 is a damn good price but you might as well wait to see how SandyBridge performs in a month and a half since Macs will be packing them too (unless of course you are happy with the current processing power).
The irony is, even his earlier statement is wrong. I know of tons of people in the fields he listed who have consistently said that they would use a PC over a mac any day (well except for artists, I've seen more artists on the mac side). When people use the diction of powerful but have no actual numbers behind it the BS alarm goes wild. Believe me, I'm a rabid PC fanatic, but to each their own. As much of a PC fan as I am, I'm still getting my mom a mac when I graduate.
