I'm in need of a new laptop and i THINK i really like the Macbooks. My GF has the 17" Macbook pro, but that size is a little too expensive for me although the smaller sizers are cheaper. I really like the size and coolness of the new Macbook air! Lastly a co worker is selling his Macbook (the white one 13') for 400 bucks.... its like brand new, Good deal? any Macbook owners wanna give me a lil advice? thanks

If you have money to burn and love to show off your shallowness. Yeah, get a macbook since everyone is having one these days... unless you are professional musicians and artists.

MacBooks are great laptops. I love my MacBook Pro and really appreciate it so much after using so many crap Windows laptops.

Its not about money, its more about the machine itself and the performance/design... Im thinking about going for the used one for 400 bucks, i just need to get the specs from his and relay that info back

A brand is just a brand. Get something that does what you need it to do at a price you can afford. It's all about performance, no matter what you're using it for.

Unless you just wanna be a cool cat. Then just buy a Mac and blindly repeat everything they say in the commercials.

Can't have a Mac thread without the haters. FWIW, I love my MacBook.. and no, Steve Jobs didn't tell me to say that.

No, it's also about being hassle-free. I don't want to have to deal with 1,000 extra applications on my laptop just to keep it virus free. Plus, $400 for a Mac sounds good. But I doubt it's "in good condition." Most likely it's the old white Mac, or something has got to be wrong with it. Make sure you take a look at it before purchasing it. Mac's in good condition usually have a high resale value.

I don't hate Macs. They're fine computers. Like I said, I don't really look at brands. I just find the Mac fanboys extremely annoying. I have an iPod and an iPad, and both are really well built and do their jobs very well. I'm sure MacBooks are the same way. Just stop telling me how much better your laptop is that mine, because I don't really care. My little Toshiba does what I need it to do, has never broken down on me, and cost about a quarter of what a Macbook costs. Not saying you do this, but trust me, A LOT of Mac owners do.

I run just Norton Antivirus and haven't had any trouble with my Toshiba in 5 years. I suppose you've had a different experience. To each their own, I guess.

More on topic, unless your co-worker is a really good friend, really rich, or not too bright, I doubt he'd sell a new MacBook for $400. Like trustme said, make sure you try it out first to make sure nothing's wrong with it. If everything checks out, that's a really good deal.

Don't you see the irony in your post? Seems to me the only fanboy type statements in this thread so far are from the 'anything except Mac' fanboys who have offered zero insight except ' you must be superficial.' I think you had a preemptive knee jerk reaction here, which is just as common as the Apple fanboys IMHO.

I've probably said it 100x already, but there is a discernible difference between using Windows and OS X, right? These aren't the exact same computers. And some prefer Windows, some prefer OS X, and some are willing to pay extra money for that preference just like shoes, cars, vacuum cleaners, etc.

Anyways, sounds like the OP has already made up his mind. Just to be sure, you mean it's like brand new in specs or just in condition? I would also test drive it for an hour just to be sure. If it all checks out it's a steal.

I love macs but I switched back to a pc after 5 years a few months ago.

For the average user, it's not worth the price.
