No experience or knowledge on the Slingbox, but did read this CNET article recently about a competitor with some apparent advatages... http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6648777.html
I have a DirecTivo. I thought about switching to cable or Dish Network but would miss it. Are you saying the cable one sucks?
If anyone was looking at getting a slingbox I would pay to use it even if that means providing the slingbox
At HP this past summer, we demoed the Slingbox and the HAVA side-by-side in a meeting. IMO, the HAVA won. Better picture quality and built-in wireless = Slingbox killer.
Ok, I just bought the Hava unit hopefully it will do the DVR, it will be here tomorrow. I am traveling to the UK for the first week of November, and don't want to miss any Rocket games. Link to Hava manufacturer DD
I need someone to help me test it out. I have it hooked up and playing the NBA TV channel...can someone see if it works? Download the player here For those interested, it did not handle my component inputs, so I simply left my components to the TV, and then took a seperate S-video output to the Hava....and it works fine. It does control the DVR, although you have to play around a bit with the pull down buttons to figure out which one corresponds appropriately..... I even set the DVR to record the Miami game tonight, and WALLAH, it is working. What I haven't tested is how well it works to someone OUTSIDE of my home network. DD
Thanks DD; I'll give it a try now Edit: I am not sure where to start after looking through the link you provided. Do you have any pointers?
If you need someone else to test it I am willing to help, would be interesting to see what kind of picture you would get from over here in Australia.
I probably will, but right now I am wrestling with how to access it from external sources through my Linksys router...I don't want to give out access to my whole network, just the unit itself. DD
I got it working !!!!! The controls are all functional, but the usability of them is for crap. I had to unistall, and reinstall, but before reinstalling I had to manually delete all files Hava..... I used Tech Support and it took us 30+ minutes on the phone...but it LOOKS great...... Now, I have to pick someone overseas to test out tonight's game between the Rocks and the Heat..... DD
If you need someone I am more than willing to help Already been looking around the net at my options.
Sorry to bump up an old thread, but how has the Hava Box been working out, DD? And which one did you go with, the wireless box or the wired one?
I got the wireless one, and it works GREAT !!! I was in the UK 2 weeks ago for a week, and 3 Rockets games were played. I was able to record them all and watch them the next morning on my PC using my Hava..... Not to mention I did not miss Heroes or Studio 60 either.... I highly recommend it if you travel. DD
