Just think of how many big men in Dikembe's prime were better then him. Here are some off the top of my head:
    Hakeem
    Patrick Ewing
    David Robinson
    Alonzo Mourning
    Shaq

I think he was a better all-around center than Alonzo, better defense, a lot better rebounding, and Mourning was not a great offensive player so the difference there is negligible.

His on-court accomplishments might not be good enough to get into the Hall of Fame but his off-court work will push him in.

What a silly question. Deke is an automatic hall of famer.

Mutumbo might be the best rebounding/defensive specialist center of all time. So he has no offense. He is a HOF player.

And by this token, so is Dennis Rodman, which I have no problem with.

Why is it a "silly question"? The guy was never the best player on his own team. And it isn't like he played with a Michael Jordan his entire career.

I think Deke will, but not in the first year of elegibility. I'm thinking more of the lines of Charles Barkely when he was inducted, NBA will probably get Mutombo into the Hall of Fame about 15-20 years after he retired. Hopefully he will still be around!

i wouldnt say a hell yes, but he's definetly in strong consideration whenver he retires. i see it like this. if he wins a ring (and it WILL be with us) he'll be 100% lock because he was a great role player and backup for yao. god forbid if he doesnt win one with us, he'll be around like a 70-30 vote to go in.

he's been pretty consistent in terms of role on his teams to be effective when needed. not to mention he's been a stud off the court with the whole nba connection to congo. he's a great philanthropist and it may not have that much of an impact, but im sure the panel considers it a huge brownie point.

Charles BArkley got inducted in his first year of eligibility. Deke will probably get elected in hist first year of eligibility.

yeah but does that make you a hall of famer? He always had the blocks and he had defensive player of the year awards, but I don't think he was ever the greatest 1 on 1 defender. I think he was an incredible off the ball defender, but not a great 1 on 1 defender.

He was a terrific role player. He put up huge block and rebound numbers. I think the Hall Of Fame should be reserved for the best of the best. Players that were consistently top 5 in the league overall. I mean look at a guy like Emeka Okafor who's putting up 15, 11, and 3; if he does that for 10-15 years should he be a hall of famer? Hell no. Dikembe was and still is a consistent player. He's a great shot blocker, an awful offensive player, and a decent-good one on one defender. Not a Hall Of Famer.

People think I'm stupid for asking the question whether or not he should make it, but when someone like Dominique doesn't make it first ballot is it silly to question whether Dikembe makes it? Especially when guys like Bernard King and Artis Gilmore aren't in.

    Are you kidding?

As a rookie (1991) he was the only Nuggets "All-Star" with over 16 points and 12 rebounds per game. He was an All-Star again in 94-95 and 95-96 as part of the Nuggets, who didn't have another All-Star while he was part of the team.

Then, in his first year in Atlanta - Laettner and Deke were both All-Stars (though we know who the better player was). In 97-98 it was Deke and Steve Smith repping the Hawks, again - note the constant All-Star compared to the rotating Hawks teammates. There was no All-Star game in 98-99, however, Dikembe was given the NBA's IBM Award, which was the computerized formula award winner that determined the player of the year.

After the lockout, Dikembe was the lone Hawks All-Star in 99-00 and 2000-2001, before being traded to Philly, where he played second fiddle to Allen Iverson, but still won the Defensive Player of the Year honors while going to the NBA Finals.

    ...

So yeah, there's 10 years of stating that he was playing at an incredible rate while maintaining lone-stardom on his team for multiple seasons.

    Can't really mess with the stats...Deke is a Hall-Of-Famer without a doubt.

Fine I guess he was the best player on his own team a couple times but not because he was named an All-Star. The All-Star game's a joke. When he was in his prime he was an automatic All-Star, because of his popularity.

He was at times the best player on ****ty teams.
