Has everything to do with this game. If he shot 1-10 with 5 turnovers you wouldn't be posting this. I like Casspi but there are no absolutes. Morey saw something he liked in Casspi and that goes a long way for me but remember he also liked Marcus Morris and look where following that coattail got you.
Casspi will probably not be as great as you suggest. But he probably won't be as bad as Morris. The thing about Casspi is so much of his game is tied to his confidence. We have a team that mostly helps build confidence so you may see the best of him. Personally I think he is more talented than Delfino but he certainly doesn't have the passion. He is better suited to play the stretch 4 than delfino. But just as the other poster was ready to ditch before one game lets not crown the second coming of Marcus Morris just yet.
I think in this microwave culture, people want it now. Personally, I would like to see the continued development of Terrance Jones at pf closing games. How do you ever learn as a unit if you don't go through it? Look at chalmers as a 1st or 2nd yr player vs now as a young vet. Remember Fisher,Horry, and Cassell as young player on the court closing out games? I do and it was hit and miss until they found their way. I like cassipi and have since his sacramento days. I think he'll get his minutes mostly to cut parsons minutes down hopefully.
Not sure if you've noticed, but the thread you quoted me on, and my quote you brought up were both made days, weeks, and months ago. So unless you can give me a time machine to go back and change my mind, that was how I felt all along, irregardless of how Casspi played today. As for looking at where Marcus Morris has gotten me, I am indeed still reeling from the emotional trauma that being wrong on an internet message board has stricken upon myself. It has been some time since then, but the reverberations have lasted to this day. But in my heart of hearts, I truly believe: this too shall pass.
Enlighten me a bit: exactly how "great" did I suggest Casspi to be? Like Whataburger "great"? Or Lebron James "great"?
To Cxbby's credit, he did suggest we start Casspi before this game began. I do not believe he would have created this thread if Casspi went 1 for 10. Evident by the 9:58 creation as opposed to 6:58. Still he is clearly a Casspi fan and not a bandwagoner. His problem he has a history of a agreeing with everything Morey does and not having a mind of his own. Plus suggesting Casspi start is just ridiculous. 75% of the pf's in the league would destroy him. Suggesting that he finish brings some of the same problems but might be a better option but rules out other alternatives including the possibility of Parsons moving to the 4. He is a better rebounder has gotten stronger in the off season and allows Cisco to finish games or even a lineup of Bev, Lin Harden, Parsons and Howard. Those or rotations I would consider before finishing with Casspi. Of course if Casspi blows up at offense than leaving on the bench late in games when points are hard to come by could be difficult but one game does not answer that and even Morey doesn't know if he can keep it up for another game much less a season. I do think if he is going to improve this is the team for him to do it on. But just like the guy who wanted to can him before one pre season game. Let's allow the preseason to play out and then work out the rotations before deciding whether he should start or finish.
Old Man Rock is always giving me grief, so I'll take the credit while I can, even if it is backhanded. For what it's worth, I do think Casspi is better suited in the Delfino role rather than starting. However, Delfino did finish plenty of games last year as the PF. Also, the lineup you suggested: Bev/Lin/Harden/Parsons/Dwight, is mentioned in the OP, before I even mentioned Casspi. So I agree. Also also, Brooks, Jones, Dmo are all players drafted by Morey. And I don't have much faith in any of them. So there's also that. But you are right, I do in general agree with Morey. And at the same time understand that he works in probabilities as opposed to absolutes.
Probably would help people believe that you don't care about what people say on an internet message board if you weren't acting like such a douche. And telling someone to grow up before he can talk to you? So someone has to be older and have a job in order to have spare time to spend on a message board talking about people who are his age/younger than him? Weird. Wouldn't having a job mean you have less time to every single post?
Casspi had 1 good game in preseason against backups of the hornets... I think he will be used as a stretch 4 when we play small, a replacement of Defino. My prediction is he will be as streaky as Delfino, but with less determination and toughness, more rebounds though.
Casspi made a strong bid for the minutes that Carlos vacated....but its only one game. Several players were out, not the least of which was Asik and the coaches need to see them all in different combos in different situations this pre-season. The starting 4 spot remains a problem based on what we saw in game 1. Casspi, however, made a strong statement that he deserves more chances to earn those minutes. Going to be an interesting pre-season, for sure.
To me, what is most interesting about the possibility of Omri Casspi emerging this month as a member of the Rockets rotation is that he'd render either Donatas Motiejunas or Terrence Jones expendable. The stock of a second year guy if he's rotting at the bench is bound to plummet. Makes much more sense to flip that guy for a protected first round pick (top 20 overall protected, i.e., Houston only gets the pick if it's in the 21-30 overall range?) this month. Of course, if Motiejunas plays poorly this month, probably doubtful than anybody coughs up a first round pick for the guy, so there's that.
I call this lineup "closing the garage door" Beverly Brewer Parsons (if he gets back to playing actual Defense like he says he will) Howard Asik
