I don't think they make people who donate to the tip jar contributing members anymore. I donated this year and they didn't.
The Rockets are going to use Casspi as the stretch 4 next to Howard. For this role, there is a very simple and very specific task on offense: knock down corner 3s. Last year, 2 players played this role, Parsons at times but mostly Delfino. Delfino took a total of 123 corner 3s, making 42.3% of them. Parsons took a total of 123 corner 3s, as well, making 49.6% of them. As Jason Freidman keeps mentioning, that is a very good %. Casspi's time in Cleveland was basically a waste. No one looks good in that dump. He barely played last year, taking a total of only 13 corner 3s. The year before, he took 50 and made 32% of them. Not good numbers. However, the previous two years in Sacramento, combined: Casspi took a total of 146 corner 3s, making 48.6% of them. That is elite numbers right inline with Parsons last year. Even when you factor in his time in Cleveland, he is a career 45% shooter from the corners. When you look at a player's efficiency and other advanced stats, those numbers are completely useless if you do not factor in how he is going to be used. The fact that all he will be asked to do in Houston is bomb away from the corners, which just happens to be his biggest strength on offense, is going to be a huge boon to all his numbers. Not to mention, his corner opportunities are likely to double compared to any other time in his career, especially playing next to Dwight. So anyways, with that said, I'll take $5 to my $100 now, for anyone else who is interested.
He could be a surprise. Didn't he always play well against us in Sacramento? If we get Kings Casspi, then good.
If I were you, I would not take any bets involving marginal players the likes of Prince Casspi. Like his time in Cleveland, time and money wasted.
Does that mean you are taking the bet or no? Why not Kevin Love, while we are at it? I'll make sure I let Morey know.
Kevin Love is also a good choice but to me is more of a traditional PF who can also shoot. I am good with Parsons. I am not against Casspi in any sense but there is no way you can compare him to Delfino. Delfino is a straight badass internationally and in the NBA. I don't like any percentages that he shoots. Rookie seasons count for nothing when a young player can't continue to get better but regress. I would even take Busty Morris over him. That says alot. So No.
No to what? You are the one that said if you were me you would not take bets involving marginal players. In that case, it would only be natural for you to take bets against mine, since you are not me. You might want to go back in this thread and figure out what I am even betting on first.
I already said I vote for him being on the final roster. My caveat and concern is that he won't be a long term puzzle piece here. And one of those guys that are cut could still turn out to be more valuable than him.
In that case, I'm not sure why you are worried about me simply betting on him making the roster, since you apparently agree. What happens in the long term is anyone's guess and I am entitled to mine.
You really can't formulate a stance towards somebody basing your thoughts on an approximately nineteen minutes long scrimmage video, the guy filming this video didn't film the entire scrimmage so you can't decide whether Casspi should be cut or not. As far as I know Dwight Howard was complimenting Omri Casspi saying that Casspi can really shoot the ball, it also seems like Casspi has a good chemistry with his teammates, I think coach McHale believes in Casspi, after all he was signed right after they brought Dwight Howard to the team, it probably means something. Casspi role in Houston is not major at least not now, he was brought to play as a role player, as another player which their role will be to stand on the three point line so Howard will have more space in the paint so if he struggles he can pass the ball to the players which encircle him. I think in Casspi as a win-win situation for the Rockets, his contract his cheap which means his salary is low, therefore, if Houston isn't satisfied with Casspi they can cut him and no harm will be done, but on the other hand if Casspi turns out to be a success than this signing will be a very smart signing for the Rockets.
...that missed open dunk did it for me. Cut him now!!! If he can regain his 3 point shooting form, great! If not...meh.
It's really weird that this thread exists before we even get to watch Casspi play in a Rockets jersey. That is all. p.s. if the same poll were created about Carlos Delfino last year before the Rockets played even a single preseason game, a whole lot of people would have said he should be cut.
