LOL! Steve Kerr is trying hard to be a minority Suns owner to help his team.

Two different situations. Elson was lying on the floor, only some staring and that's it. There was no fight, no words, no foul call. The most thing the League can do to TD and Bowen is a fine. If the League tries to twist its rules to conform what public wants, then it will lose the total integrity of the organisation. God bless them anyway.

The league can do whatever it wants, and probably will.

They'll get a one game suspension, just to be consistent and set a precedent...

No, the league is always consistent on this rule.

Duncan's violation is just as inconsequential... but he still violates the "letter of the law".

This is where having rules such as this becomes more trouble than they're worth... everybody's worried more about how the rule should be enforced rather than eliminating "altercations" all-together.

Not enough to suspend Duncan and Bowen there but the rule will get changed this offseason because of Amare and Diaw. It's not worth losing a series over.

yeah i just read kerr's article. hope they ALL get suspended then the suns will have a way better chance of winning game 5 and there in lies the series. so its either suspend them all or let them play. obviously negative that effects bowen im all for. sorry bowen i really dont like the way you play. if winning means destroying someone else's career no thanks.

Why is there more to get Amare and Diaw?

If they go by the spirit of the law, nobody should be suspended. If they go by the letter of the law, they should suspend Duncan and Bowen along with Stoudamire and Diaw. No one who came off the bench did anything. So if you suspend Suns for coming off the bench but not doing anything, you have to suspend Spurs for coming off the bench and not doing anything. Those advocating adhering to the letter of the law can't be selective about when it's enforced. If you follow it to the letter, the degree to which you violate it doesn't matter either.

I don't think Stern's going to do anything. He'll use some of the logic given in this thread as to why it wasn't a violation of the rule. I just don't believe he's going to handicap the Suns that much for something that didn't have any effect on the altercation whatsoever. If he suspends Amare/Diaw, he basically gives game 5, and probably the series, to the Spurs because of a minor event where nothing really happened. I don't think he's going to let this ultimately determine the outcome of what many believe to be the REAL NBA Championship*.

*of course they said the same thing about the Suns-Mavs series last year.

Except for that time in the tunnel.

That was an exihibition game and it happened in a tunnel.

I dont want to see any suspensions. I want to see both teams to play at full strength. It's a hell of a series. However, I dont think the League will make any exceptions.

I think this article has the right idea and is better than Kerr's whinning for the Suns:

I'm actually shocked the league stuck to the letter of the law here. The only reason those Knicks got suspended back in the day is because they knew that they could potentially knock the Bulls out of the playoffs with that squad. Same reason Utah was pushed past the Rockets.

What a flop by Nash. Maybe some soccer "magic spray" would have made his little boo boo better. If he would have fallen like a man (like Hakeem) with no acting, none of this would of happened. The acting is the worse part. He looks like a little kid when you point your finger at them and say "bang". My dog would have gotten a treat.

This league truly sucks. Just imagine, if the the first row seats are not that close to the court, the scores table isn't that close to the court, and the bench isn't that close to the court, would players get hurt crushing into the seats? Would Rodman kick the camera man? Would those players on the bench enter the court in so many incidents? Then, why risk all these? For the sport of basketball? Or just like all those sucking rules are, driven by the money and the false claim - to attract more "fans".

I agree. To prevent incidents like the Detroit brawl, we should also play NBA games in empty arenas. And baseball games should have a fence to prevent foul balls or HRs from landing in the stands and accidentally hitting "fans". The NFL, to prevent injuries from player contact, should also wrap all the players in a layer of foam to cushion the blows.

Or you can have a safe distance, which will allow players go for a save without worrying about crushing into fans, bench players, camera men. But I guess that's the same as empty arenas to you. Basketball is so special, that fans have to have body contact with players within arm-length.
