Maybe if they wait until December when all the new contracts can be aggragated they will have more to offer guys that are frustrated elsewhere? Right now we are limited to pretty much under $15m.

I would wait until December and see how the current roster works......and at that point look around at whom is frustrated in the league and whom we would have to give up to get them.

I don't think there is any player out there at around 15m that makes us appreciably better.

Anyone we bring in needs to shoot 80% from 3. You'd get a lot more points that way.

Ryan Anderson shot 80% from three outside of Toyota Center.

I think the Rockets are banking big on Amen really stepping up this season without Jalen here. I would guess he’s going to get his shot this season of facilitating a great deal of the offense.

I think they’ll wait and be patient till next season or the trade deadline to get backcourt scoring help if for some reason Amen, Cam, Reed, etc. disappoint the start of the season to take that leap.

But I also wouldn’t be surprised if the rockets do sign 1 veteran guard here this week. But it’ll be someone on the cheap I would think. Either a superstar mega deal or a vet min signing is all I would bet on.

They finished 2nd in the WC without these types of guys and no KD. Finding the types of guys you want is an all NBA type guy and those guys mean trading away some of the young talent. Is that what you want? I'm not against trading away young talent for another proven shot maker/creator.

we just need somebody that can knock down open shots on one end of the court, while playing decent D at the other...

If teams want to play us man to man... i gotta believe KD or Alpi or a few others can score just fine...

but if teams try to send help defense - we need to be able to make em pay by hitting open buckets...

we watched it done against us repeatedly - particularly GSW...

We'd send help D to try to shut down their star - and some nobody off the bench who was left alone, would rain 3's on us...

    THAT'S the guy(s) we need.

If we were looking for somebody who could create their own shot, Cam woulda seen more court time... ;)

All offense guys who can’t play D aren’t worth anything in this league

You can easily teach offensive players to play decent D a lot more easily than teaching defenders how to be effective offensive players.

    SKILL matters.

Sexton gives borderline allstar offensive production (24.5 ppg, 6 assist per 36 on 60%TS over the last two seasons) and the Jazz just paid a 2nd to move him for a backup level C (at this stage of his career) who’s 30 and injury prone - on the same exact contract

I’m just saying, it says something

Yes, but do you actually think the Jazz are trying to win? Or clear out some room for their new 5th pick in the draft?

I think they are starting the tank, now we might be able to pry Markenan away from them.

Directionally for them sure it’s fine, I’m just saying why couldn’t they get value for him given his supreme offensive talent?

    It’s because he can’t play D

Lauri is in a similar boat to Sexton, I bet his contract is negative value.

No, it is because there are very little suitors with this new Cap era....no one has money.

We cant afford Markkanen...just saw Grimes want $25M per year - I doubt we can get him at the hometown discount since this is his first big free agency payday he can take advantage of. I'm guessing with Landale, Cam, MLE, we have about $20M to spend

I am not sure you can use the MLE like that in a trade. A player can fit into the MLE, but IIRC you can use it as $$$ to apply toward a player over that amount.

We just added one of the best shooters and shot creators in NBA history. Who is old, yes, but also happened to be an outstanding wing defender last season.

He joins the team with 4th best record overall, at the expense of a poor shot creator and shooter.

I don't see this as a glaring "need".

Depth is what we "need", and there is surely hope for internal growth from the guys who are still on their rookie contracts?!?!?

If we're over the cap, we can use the NT MLE in a sign and trade scenario- from my understanding, the front office is trying to stay under the apron so they won't get taxed back to back years...especially if we're going to swing for the fences again next year to sign a key free agent

But the acquired player has to fit INSIDE the NT-MLE, meaning under about $14M.

IIRC you cannot use the amount PLUS players so MLE + Landale = $22M is not a thing.

I think the cap people on CF can explain it.

You’re always worried about what you need. Never appreciate what you have.

Jokes aside. You have Cam Jabari and Reed Sheppard. The shooting should be coming if these guys do what they’re supposed to do.
