First of all, I HATE that "just inside the arc" shot. Secondly, how does he compare with Michael Redd (mid range shooting)?
One thing peopel are forgetting...Kobe has so many more FGM at the rim because he has played in about 13-15 more games than T-mac this season. He finishes at a much better %, but the stat that Kobe has made so many more around the rim is a bit skewed. But yeah...nothing surprising, T-Mac has always been a lights out midrange shooter.
http://82games.com/FGSORT2.HTM Nice - Novak is way up there in 3pt %. We need to give him more open looks!
It's pretty obvious, T-Mac, generally the closer you are to the basket the more shots you will make. No more 3PT shots, please. Ever.
I made a post last season comparing Tracy's finishing at the basket to about 30 other primary penetrators across the NBA. He was ahead of exactly 2 players, one of which was a rookie (Brandon Roy). He's just not good at finishing at the rim. He goes too weak and expects too many fouls. It's his fault, so let's not try and talk our way out of it.
I think he was trying to dismiss the idea that it was more acceptable for Scola and Hayes to finish poorly around the rim made by DD. He was saying they are power fowards who should finish easier with little coverage than a SG with more guys in the paint. Isn't that true? Tracy has never finished well around the rim but the biggest reason is because he is too weak. Him being too weak has proven to be beyond his control because when he tries to get bigger and stronger it puts too much strain on his back. It is really that simple. He shy's away from contact and goes up weak because he isn't strong enough to finish with contact.
lol...those are horrendous numbers for a "superstar." I dont think he's a "superstar" cuz he doesnt get superstar calls, but if you want to be considered one, you gotta finsih better than 50% on layups. I dont care who's in your face.
tmac started taking mid-range Js the last 2 games -> best games of the series. adelman will put him at the high post all night starting next yr
Kobe at the rim number are better because he gets call for more fouls. If he doesn't finish and if is someone around, the ref will blow the whistle. Is the reality, T-Mac is not longer treated like a superstar. We have to live with that, unless T-Mac started b****ing the entire game to the refs and open his arm every time he get touch or can't finish at the rim, them he will go more to the FT-Line and his percentage will be much better at rim.
SGs' that are doubled constantly and never receive calls. Tracy has the nicest Midrange in the entire league, thats something FG% can't tell you because all of his shots are in someone's face didn't you see game 6?
I used to hate those shots too. But when you think about it, the defender usually either guard the 3 pt line or inside 15 ft. When you put the ball on the floor and drive past the 3 pt line, the defender would usually think you're attacking the paint. The "just inside the arc" shot is probably the most unpredictable shot for the defender to anticipate, so I just try to convince myself that Tmac is smart like that
now people need to relax about tmac cannot shoot. he just needs to avoid injuries and improve stamina. his mid-range jumper is one of the best in the L. he'll return to one of the best scorers next yr if the last 2 games indicate anything.
He doesn't get calls like Kobe. That's why when he's fouled at the rim, he misses, and his FG% goes down. He used to be a great finisher. I don't think you can get that much worse naturally without other factors.
that shot chart is on nba.com it is part of the NBA Live 08 Hotspots... and it is not the full story. that shot chart has had the same %'s since NBA Live 08 came out... it is baloney IMO.
now make sure he stays there. he should be operating from the high post a lot next yr like he did the last 2 games of the series.
Not alot of weaknesses on Kobe compared to TMac. Only one cold blue zone and two red hot zones. TMac has three cold blue zones and only one red hot zone. I'm glad to see that TMac shoots more near the basket than further. Seems like he's taking more outside shots when you watch him. It's just amazing that Kobe can make 60% near the basket where defenders will crowd you.
