I haven't heard or seen anything that indicates this from Adelman. Could it be Adelman wasn't willing to sell out his assistants? http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7529260.html
Can you think now? Is it still too much for your brain? Sorry, I have no solution for you...it's call blindness stupidity. Rebuilding is a sorry excuse for failure by GMs. Championship teams don't rebuild, they IMPROVE!!!
I am not sure what Adelman didnt approve of Moreys moves so far. Its obvious Adelman didnt have the team to compete. So what was his contention about Morey making moves to get better? Standing pat was definately not gonna do anything. If he is gone because he wants the same team his whole tenure here? Then good riddance to Adelman.
What does it mean to be "proven"? Win a championship? Was CD a proven GM but became unproven by the end? In sports like many things in life you have to strive for results, but judge based on the process. Not the other way around. Because not everything is in your control. In the LONG run you can be only results-oriented, since things like luck(like inheriting a championship squad) evens out. The reason why I believe in Morey is because his process has been solid throughout. Even though the results have been mixed. Not because he has or hasn't won a championship.
"The plan". Good post but those words were used quite frequently throughout the body of the message. Here's to hoping "the plan" does indeed have some sort of clear direction. To me, it just seems we're rebuilding on the fly and waiting for an opportunity to pounce on the next Melo-like situation. Some could argue that's merely stalling. I guess now that Morey officially has the bulls-eye on his back now only time will tell.
CD got old, it happens in all professions, he couldn't keep up with the wave of talent evaluation I don't doubt morey's skills, and yes, he got burned by injuries. however, he will have to prove if he is a big deal maker, he has no doubt proven that he is an asset builder, but its going to take a blockbuster to get the rockets back into contention, can he do that?
to me, morey is a bigger gamber than what ppl here can imagine. he may fail badly or he may bring sth huge for rox. he gambled on yao by bringing some key players, such as km, to here b4 anyone knew if yao can step on the court or not. obviousely, he failed. w/ this roster, small changes are not going to bring a title to h-town so he strikes again. unfortunately ra was not a fan of his gambling style. morey had no choice but said bye bye to ra
I find your post fairly refreshing. A few more people need to let things play out before they point the flamethrowers at Daryl and Les. There was a clear reason behind it as you pointed out; I don't know if it will work, but I'm willing to watch and see rather than cursing out my hometown team
The Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, Mavericks, Bulls, and Heat ALL had their periods of rebuilding. After Jordan, the Bulls were mired in mediocrity for YEARS before they were able to nab Derrick Rose. The Lakers?? Just look at the mid to late 90s. They were virtually irrelevant. The Spurs had to tank just to get Tim Duncan. Don't even get me started on the Celtics. They were TERRIBLE for the entire duration of the 90s and even into the 2000s before Paul Pierce resurrected them. The Mavericks were literally the worst team in the NBA before Mark Cuban came in and saved the day for them. Don't get caught up in the media hype that every team that's good now will be good forever. It simply isn't the case. Every team has to rebuild sooner or later....it's the natural order of things.
hahaha When you lose your two All-Stars, man, you rebuild ... even when you don't want to. Didn't we try to improve by going for Bosh and Carmelo? And didn't they already make up their minds where they wanted to go? Look at the franchise players of the playoff contenders--except for a very few cases, they were drafted. Because teams never let go of their stars. Except to glamor teams (MIA,NY) or teams with high draft picks (Deron to NJ). So we choose a strategy--to rebuild/improve via the draft or by trading for young players or if we get lucky, an All-Star who wants out of his team. We need to be open to all possibilities.
Cxbby taking names in thread. Funny thing is people here keep referring to Adelman as some paragon of winning while talking about how DM has failed and done nothing of value. Truth is the only difference between them is tenure, Adelman's been doing his job for over two decades and has achieved the same result as Morey has in 5: no rings.
It may look like Morey is making gambles, but they are quite calculated. He manages his risks, and this is where all the stats come in. And if you notice, he always has an alternative plan.
Thats true. I dont see Moreys job as failed or done good yet. Its still incomplete. Incomplete because Les Alexander finally took the handcuffs off with Tmac and Yao after all these years and Morey has done somewhat good despite that. Not great but considering what he had to work with? Pretty decent. Adelman and Les Alexander have hindered that process at times. Now he has his year to see what he can do. He should get more time than just this next season to do so. This will be the first time we see what Morey can actually do now. He has had made moves to upgrade Adelmans and Les Alexanders plans with Yao and Tmac up until this point.
LOL at the people acting like we should have traded T-Mac and Yao year's ago. I'd like to see the old posts lobbying for that before they got injured and had negative trade value. Not to mention a few of those years we were considered contender's going into the season. Les's plan? LOL. Typically when a team is fortunate enough to acquire two superstars in their prime they build a team around them...not decide to break the team up.. as every team, GM, coach, fan in the league would agree.
Totally agree. Everyone knows we are rebuilding, coz we are certainly not contending and not even in playoffs. If we are not rebuilding, fans will quit Rockets altogether. But rebuilding is not easy, for those who are clear about "the plan", I've been asking what exactly that is. Getting above average players is the easy part of any plan, but getting that one or two marquee player is the hardest part. It's either draft, trade, or FA. What is our plan? Tanking to get through draft, trading our good players (how far are we going without ended up with Bowen and Bogans starting again)? I seriously don't see "the plan". Watching how Melo single-handedly kept Knicks in the game last night, I can't help fantasizing those whatifs. If you are bad or mediocre, it doesn't mean you are rebuilding automatically. As OP said "we don't want to stay pat on mediocrity", then again, when you are rebuilding, it means you know who and what to rebuild around. Otherwise, you are just saying that to feel good. I really hope i am wrong, that Les/DM have a plan in mind all the time, and they are executing it step by step to get us much better.
I am not greedy, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I will sleep better with a few division titles or conference titles in the near future.
I really don't think the Rockets "plan" is very clear either. Some of the posts and even Clutch's article says the Rockets are taking a big step back to build for the future. If this is the plan, then it must have just started. Signing Scola and Lowry, and trading a younger player (Landry) for a veteran (Martin) does not strike me as a team taking a big step back. I don't think we'll know the "plan" for sure until we see what happens with Martin and Scola. If we plan on keeping those two guys, then I don't see how the Rockets could be serious about taking a big step back.
