Well said. Her version of "practicing free speech" equates to a 6 year old sticking his finger in his brother's face and saying "I'm not touching youuuuuuu........"
you still didn't explain why you think Gellar gives no ****s about free speech. You can disapprove of Islam and believe in free speech. In fact it makes sense to believe in one if you believe in the other.....
Basically, doing something just for the purpose of pissing off someone who doesn't want you to do. Yeah, to me this is silly and childish. I accept it as a good response if it has a real impact in getting people to understand and value free speech more. Do you think this achieves that goal?
Because it conveniently lines up with her rhetoric to espouse hatred towards Muslims. Read about her. One thing common about all her speeches: Hatred of Muslims. Thus, one event that she planned that 'celebrates free speech' that coincidentally also antagonizes Muslims is most likely planned to do what she always does... antagonize Muslims. Common sense buddy.
you conflate hatred of Muslims with hatred of Islam. I know who she is and like her i find Islam disgusting, but her view on Islam has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Not in the case of Pamela Gellar. Like I said before, watch some of her interviews and speeches. She brings no constructive criticism to the table. If anyone knows the distinction between criticizing Islam and disparaging Muslims it's me a Muslim apostate who has repeatedly said some harsh truths about the Muslim prophet. Also, maybe I do have an inherent distrust for a theist criticizing another theist's religion. Part of me assumes that the intent is just to propagate a notion of a superior 'true' faith rather than constructive criticism. So when ever I see someone like Pamela Gellar or a Southern Baptist preacher spew hatred for Muslims all I see is one individual stating their religion is better than the other religion.
At the end of the day, Islam is awful. A despicable religion followed by people who have bad intentions to cause hurt and damage to others who don't follow their cult.
Pam Gellar and her crowd have been labeled by the Anti-Defamation league as being prejudiced just like the Klan and Neo Nazi groups have. She's a bigot, and there's no doubt that her intention was to celebrate and spread her bigotry. That being said, she has the right to exhibit those pictures and be prejudiced all she wants. It is her right, and anyone who reacts violently because of it is not only wrong, but plays into her hands.
its a justification to act deplorable. Like how Rastafarians use their beliefs to justify smoking pot all day. People turn to Islam to justify wanting to treat their wives (or women in general) as sub human or hate anyone who disagrees with them.
Exactly. She might be a c*nt but she has every right to be a c*nt as long as she does not infringe upon the natural rights of another individual. At the end of the day, the two shooters are in the wrong and Pamela Gellar is still a c*nt.
Most Muslims 'turn to Islam' because they were raised Muslim. My father isn't Muslim because he wants to abuse my mother. He was raised Muslim. It's that simple.
Hmmm ... so it is a kind of protest? Like a Gay Pride parade, where gays/lesbians purposely dress up in provocative clothing? To the extent that it affects real, positive change, I'm OK with it. That's why I asked, what is expected outcome of all this.
So the good folks with Westboro Church are celebrating the First Amendment when they protest the funeral ceremonies of fallen soldiers? Hate groups are protected by the First Amendment. All hate groups. Including this one. But lets not confuse what they do with the word celebration, even if what they are doing falls within your beliefs...
Flynt was a business man trying to make money because there was a demand for his service... These people are just trying to start shyt. And they had a small army ready and waiting. Freedom of speech and freedom to instigate and throw fuel on the fire is two different things. Well it's obvious people here (like you) freely label and insult the entire black community by calling them and only them animals and thugs... But what's your point...?
Hey now, Mr. Individual Liberty, leave the Rastafarians out of this. If Rastafarianism is "deplorable," but can help make live albums like this, I don't wanna be right: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7QCWo-lIt3M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
