    Judge resigns, Ferguson cases moved after scathing DOJ report

    (CNN)Ferguson's municipal judge has resigned and all the city's court cases are getting moved after the U.S. Justice Department said the court participated in unlawfully targeting African-Americans.

    "To help restore public trust and confidence in the Ferguson municipal court division, the Supreme Court of Missouri today transferred Judge Roy L. Richter of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, to the St. Louis County Circuit Court, where he will be assigned to hear all of Ferguson's pending and future municipal division cases," the Supreme Court said in a statement Monday.

    "Extraordinary action is warranted in Ferguson, but the court also is examining reforms that are needed on a statewide basis," Chief Justice Mary R. Russell said in the statement.

    The announcement came the same day Municipal Court Judge Ronald Brockmeyer resigned as Ferguson's judge.

    "Mr. Brockmeyer recognizes that the Department of Justice report, as well as recent media reports, regardless of their accuracy or validity, have diminished the public's confidence in the Ferguson Municipal Court," his attorney Bert Fulk said in a statement.

    "Mr. Brockmeyer believes that it is paramount to begin immediately on promoting the public's confidence in the Ferguson Municipal Court. Promoting the public confidence in the Ferguson Municipal Court will help Ferguson begins its healing process."

    Just about every branch of Ferguson government -- police, Municipal Court, City Hall -- participated in "unlawful" targeting of African-American residents for tickets and fines, the Justice Department concluded.

    The millions of dollars in fines and fees paid by black residents served an ultimate goal of satisfying "revenue rather than public safety needs," the Justice Department found.

    Justice report finds systematic discrimination by police in Ferguson

    Its report detailed how Ferguson operated a vertically integrated system -- from street cop to court clerk to judge to city administration to city council -- to raise revenue for the city budget through increased ticketing and fining.

    The DOJ's probe came after public outcry over the death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, who was shot by Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson in August. Wilson, who was not indicted on any charges, has resigned from the police department.

    Wow this is terrible. This just goes to show all black people deserved to be treated poorly and now we see the police department was justified in its approach.

    Shame on all the protestors and blacks. They bear full responsibility - all of them.

    Very sad to see what's happening in Ferguson. The cycle of violence continues. Some people commit crimes, some police brutalize and discriminate against some people, some people commit crimes, some police brutalize and discriminate against some people, and on and on the ball rolls.

    Ferguson needs a truth commission.

    The DOJ pursued a policy of appeasement to handle the unruly mobs, and they way they did this was to smear the Ferguson Police Department, despite the fact that Officer Wilson was completely 100% cleared in his actions. The police chief of Ferguson, unfairly lost his job in order to help control this mob. Now, these "protesters" have resorted to even more violence. This situation was handled all wrong. The problem in the community isn't the police -- it's the high crime rate, lack of education, and lack of family structure. But in today's hyper political world, DOJ must side with the protesters because these people vote alongside the Democratic party.

    I think it was wrong to fire on these police, and I am impressed and happy that the cops did not fire back randomly into the crowd. I think protestors arming themselves and firing on police is fine, but only in self defense or firing back -- not taking unprovoked pot shots from some hill.

    We also should not dismiss the possibility that this was an agent provocateur though. Agent provocateurs have been used by the government to discount and justify the violent repression of protest movements and subversive elements for over a century. I am not saying I think it was an agent provocateur, only that we should not assume it wasn't.

    See how people on both sides of an issue can agree. I would love if this happened. I am sure the people of Ferguson would also like this.

    Just like when the NYPD stopped harassing people as much in order to illustrate their dislike for De Blasio and the anti-cop sentiments in the city, and then it turned out people really preferred not being policed so much -- I am sure the people of Ferguson would love if the cops left.

    Actually a lot of them should be fired and thrown in prison. The leadership that was ultimately responsible for this garbage are getting a year's pay and benefits to quit. It's disgusting. That's not justice for what they've done to this town's residents. You violate people's rights for years and you get to slink away with pay? Screw that.

    More blood on the hands of Obama and Eric Holder for fanning the flames all over an original incident in which Officer Wilson was CLEARED OF ALL CHARGES. The tally is now up to 4 people shot over this, with 2 of those dying from their wounds (NYPD officers Liu and Ramos). The blame is SQUARELY on the protesters and those race hustlers fanning the flames -- that includes all the typical race hustlers as well as Eric Holder and Barack Obama.

    The DOJ reported on facts. It has nothing to do with appeasement. They found facts and listed them.

    There may be other problems in the community, but the police are definitely a problem. If you have facts that say otherwise, then list them. But facts and findings have been listed in the report and nothing you've said disproves or even contradicts any of them.

    One of the biggest problems is when people do as you've done and ignore a problem, and all the evidence that highlights that problem and nothing is ever done about it.
