I think what happened was the cop told a skateboarder to stop skateboarding, and he didn't...probably with a smart ass remark at the same time. The cop kept telling people, "If I tell you to stop skateboarding then you stop." But other than the other ridiculous stuff he started making up later on, he doesn't mention anything else that the skateboarder did wrong. My guess is there isn't too much the video isn't showing us. And why did he arrest the guy with the camera? The others I can see...the first guy didn't do what the cop asked, several others tried to run and there was the one guy that actually made a halfassed attack of the cop after he put the girl in a headlock...but then he just turns around and arrests the camera dude who was there the whole time and simply gives him the reason, "You were resisting arrest." I didn't see that dude do ANYTHING that looked like resisting arrest to me. He was the most cooperative of the bunch.
right, but you are basing your opinion on only what we've seen. Would the kid calling him a pig, insulting him and/or resisting before the officer ever got mad change your opinion? Wasnt it the kids running away, resisting, arguing, etc...that was the actions that made the officer get even more irrate? If the kids would have just shut up, let the cop do his job (a-hole or not) then there would have been peace.
I see your point but lets just keep the "thier kids" thing on the side and just imagine these are adults. He has a group of them around him and none of them are following his commands. The cop is going to try and find a way to control the situation, if that means cuffing people he's going to do it. As for the additional charges thing, I think it happens alot. Don't show a cop the proper respect and they'll hit you with everything they can think of, not all of it may stick but they'll throw it up there.
Excusing the first guy, who stays by the way, and says he did nothing wrong......the rest of the kids did very little, and just because someone calls a cop a pig, does not give the cop a right to use excessive force on kids. The cop is the adult, HE SHOULD FRICKEN ACT LIKE IT.......sticks and stones etc..... Watch the video again, all the kid that ran away did is say he got a picture of the cop choking the kid on the ground...... He ran away...good for him, he avoided being jerked around by some out of control power mongering cop. What commands? He is yelling at kids out of control making up BS charges....if a cop tells them to sit, what right does he have to make ANYONE sit? He is a public servent...nothing more.... Which is crap, and they should all have helmet cams to keep them in check....cops are out of control....far too often.... DD
I don't know if the cop should be fired, but he shouldn't be allowed to have any donuts for a month. I also hope they don't have any real crime in that town. What a joke. 4 kids arrested for skateboarding. Nice job douchebag. The pig is going to spray the kid that he already has on the ground with his hands behind his back for speaking? What an assh0le. Make that no donuts for 2 months. I'm starting to think maybe that guy wasn't a real cop. Did he even have a mustache? I can't believe there are people acting like the cops should be out on the streets arresting kids for skating. I hope donkeymagic goes to jail the next time he has a cracked tail light.
Oh, no. I'm sure there's nothing more to this story besides what we see on this video. I'm sure there was nothing else that happened before the video started. So let's all rush to judgement and FIRE this cop.
DaDa, you are really a 'jump first' type person. Major has a point; you may be right and the cop was just completely out of line, but the video definitely has 'more to the story' yet you're just ready to fire up the mob. This may be a clue about why your Rockets views turn out the way they do.
So, you automatically believe the cop over the kids? Judging just what I see on the video, which I concede is edited, still shows some egregious behaviour by the police officer..... What do they say about 2 wrongs not making a right? I am emotional when I see people in power abusing that power. You are correct. I am not ready to fire up the mob, I am ready for police officers to do their job and to stop making up trumped up charges, treating everyone like perps, and acting like they are the final authority. A good number of police do a good job, but there are far too many cases of them being out of control and being protected by their ranks.....Video tape has helped level the playing field....good for the citizens of America.... DD
i sense a little bias cop hating going on and you obviously arent going to put any responsibility upon the kids...oddly enough thats a major problem now in days. i always wondered who those people were well i see that i have to blame the cop completely and excuse the kids to be "cool". And if i have a broken tailight, i wont go to jail. Do you know why? because i will be polite, keep my mouth shut, let the cop do his thing. Amazing concept i know. Just like i got out of not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. Just like i got out of running a red light AND i admitted to the guy that i had a couple drinks. Just like i got out of an expired tag. Its amazing how showing some respect and treating people nicely can really pay off. Good luck with your approach
You do realize that fleeing from the police is against the law? Even if the police officer is on a power trip or if you don't like him? Under any circumstances where you try to run away from the police, even if you are completely blameless, you should not be surprised if you go to jail if they catch you. It is a crime by itself. I am actually sincerely shocked that you would think it is the appropriate response. Should I set the Tivo to record future episodes of COPS in hopes of catching a DaDakota drunken chase?
Actually if a cop tell you to sit as a way to control a group of people, they have that right. Cops first instinct is to control the situation and if a crowd of people don't follow verbal commands then they'll do what's neccesary. From the start of the video, the cop is trying to get the first kid under control. The rest of the kids crowd around him and one of them makes a run for it, once again remove the "kids" factor out it and all of the sudden he's trying to bring a situation under control by himself with multiple people around him who could harm him (not saying that a possiblity but ask any cop and I'm sure they'll say they will assume someone can hurt them in most situations).
No, DD, I didn't say that... All I'm saying is that we should wait to find out the whole story before we rush to judgement. You know, since we're in America and all... How did you get that I "automatically believe the cop over the kids" from that?
Bingo I've been pulled over for speeding dozens of times and recieved 1 ticket. (speeding in a school zone I deserve that)... Had cops show up at my house for throwing parties in college (alot of underage drinking). Did what they said end the party everybody goes home flush the weed that they saw clean up the trash outside than they just left. No reason to make minor situations into something its not. Almost all of my friends that have "bad cop" stories and they almost all start with disrespect by them.
I haven't even watched the video, but if it's as people like Major say, there's really no reason to do so. Cops can be dicks. I've seen it a few times. The only time I was ever disrespectful to one, I was thrown in the slammer for eight hours. I don't defend what I did at all. The best course of action is to always show the cops the utmost respect and deal with whatever unethical actions they are performing later.
Whatever. If DD had his way, everyone would be allowed to call the cop a pig and run away if they feel like they've been disrespected by him in any way, shape or form.
Where'd DD say that? I know youradrummer and apparently Donkey's Magic is in law enforcement, but why do we automatically believe the Cop ? Really, why?
I tell ya what I see: I see a bunch of kids not complying with a police officer. I see a cop giving commands to a bunch of kids who aren't complying with his commands. This has NOTHING to do with skateboarding. When a cop tells you to do something, you do it. You don't resist. You don't flee. You don't attack. Those kids fled, resisted, and attacked. Honestly, they deserve a complete beat-down from the cop. (note: the cop told the kid, "come here!" and the kid ran away. When a cop says, "come here" you go to him. You don't run away. If you run, you deserve to get your ass beat).
Where did anyone say to automatically believe the cop, especially when we haven't even heard the cop's side of what happened?
