I am not defending the cop, but they are human beings. If for whatever reason you push their buttons, they will react emotionally. I wish it weren't true, but it is. It seems like his buttons were pushed over something exceptionally minor, but the video starts in the middle of the incident. But to expect that cops would never show a temper is a bit unpractical, IMO.

And the second person did grab the cop and try to wrestle with him while he was trying to cuff someone else. In that instance, if I did that, I would expect to go to jail.

He looks like some lonely white trash with a divorced wife that doesn't have anything to do but arrest some skateboarders.

Cops respect them or go to jail if you encounter them pretty simple.

Kids didnt respect the guy they get what they deserve.

and the kids look like white trash punks with no damn sense with nothing better to do than skateboard in places where they shouldnt....whats your point?

depending on what led up to this, the cop needs to be punished but i dont think firing is appropriate based only on the video. Make him go to some anger management and make him take skateboarding lessons. everyone's happy

So it's against the law to disrespect a cop? No and that's the thing about them abusing their power. Why can't I press charges or send somebody to jail every time they disrespects me?

disrespect them if you want, but your playing with fire. thats the point. sometimes you got to swallow your pride. If he's a jerk, arguing wont help, at least if you are quiet you dont 'give him a reason'. If he's a nice cop, arguing wont make things any better and being quiet could actually pay off.

    The Cop was an a-hole.
    The kids were punks.
If we all agree to this, the A-hole is still an adult police officer. And the punks are still kids.

Who should we safely assume would know better? I mean, this is Hot Springs people, HOT SPRINGS! Not some po-dunk place, where they tip cows and screw shee...oops, sorry.

chances are those kids were most likely baked just having fun riding it off like every other day; unfortunately they probably didn't have the capacity/faculty to shut up during the moment which of course made things worse

that cop should know that; obviously the kids aren't gonna register the power-trippin' violations and ordinances he throws at them; sure the kids might've been punks mouthing off at him; bottomline is he lost it under a really low-pressure situation

if you gotta keep him, put him behind a desk doing papers; he's got no business being law enforcement on the streets

    Agreed.

Officer Odie better go get some more training on dealing with these situations. All cops should be aware that someone could be filming them at any time.

Just to be clear, we're making judgements based on a video that:

    1. Starts in the middle of the incident
    2. Is edited with parts having been cut out or restarted several times
    3. Is posted on a skateboarding website in support of skateboarders

Anyone think there might just be another part of this that we're not seeing?

If you want to disrespect a cop when your under arrest thats your decison but he's going to react and its not going to help the situation.

I've seen guys at parties/sporting events etc etc..that want to show how big their balls are but it's not going to pay.

These guys deal with BS all day and see some pretty nasty stuff. (read any hotballas articles)...They dont have time to deal with punk kids they're after the child molesters/killers/ drunk drivers/crack dealers etc those are the guys that will get excessive force. . I've encountered cops speeding/underage drinking etc...Just do what they say and you will be suprised to see where it gets you

Most cops are great. A few bad ones make the news. That video doesn't show the whlole story so I'll reserve judgement.

where should they be skateboarding? they look like they are having fun to me on a day that promotes spending time with your friends and staying out of REAL TROUBLE... skateboarding on the sidewalks makes them white trash punks?

The kids did not help but they hardly seemed to hurt the matter either. The cop is an adult, it is his job to deal with things in a professional manner, in this instance he did a very poor job and made bad decisions.

He has to face the consequences of his actions, he works for the people...."To protect and serve" .....in this instance, he was out of control and not doing his job but rather making BS charges up and using excessive force.

If you want respect, you have to give it.......this guy neither gave it nor earned it.

And he chased that kid that said he had a picture of him choking the boy on the ground........that cop is one of the reasons that so many people don't trust police.

They abuse their power......far too often.

I should stay out of emotional debates like this, because to me, that cop is 100% in the wrong......

Most likely the officer overreacted, but you are right that this video was edited to hell and back. We probably saw a third of the incident.

Love the people that are defending the kids when the video didn't show what got the cop worked up.

Cop was pretty pissed but regardless of what their ages are if a cop tells you something, esp. when he's trying to cuff someone, you better listen or else. What is it weren't kids and it was a group of adults, the cops are going to try and control the situation esp when surround by people who are not following thier orders

so you have a problem with my comments on the kids but not the others guy comments about the officer?

lol. at least its not politics. But how can you say the cop is 100% when you dont even know what happened before where the video starts?

shouldnt make your decision of whos right and whos wrong based on incomplete evidence...signed spanoullis :D

yeah. certainly more people willing to pile on the cop. He obviously lost his cool and the kids were not exactly cooperating. Hell, lucky the cop didnt shoot that little turd running away...how stupid can you be to run?

In the evidence that we can see, he is severly over reacting, chasing a kid because he had a picture of him choking another boy, and was choking a 13 year old girl.

The guy lost it, he was not doing his job of keeping the peace, he was escalating the situation, which is the OPPOSITE of his job.

Did he even have a gun?

Watch 2:20 of the video where he tells a girl that she is in violation too and is under arrest what a BS move......out of control cop.

They all need to carry video cameras 100% of the time to keep them in check.
