Why do you care if somebody calls T-Mac a name? What possible difference could it make to you? And why do you assume that I'm talking about you when I point out that a lot of T-Mac's rabid fans don't really know anything about basketball? Have I ever accused you of being one of his rabid fans? Or is that simply how you classify yourself?
Those who are showing numbers and asking questions about idiotic, baseless opinions are not taking things personally. It's just people on here lately spew a lot of crap with no foundation. Yeah, the team's really better without McGrady in the line-up. No Rockets players believe that, yet some think they have this great insight that no one else does. Then, when called to task, they wilt. They question the heart of T-mac, yet show no heart when given the opportunity. How much more hypocritical can you be than that?
Nice try attempting to deflect the criticism directed at you, but it's not going to work. Your biggest problem, badgerfan, is that you can't take criticism -- even silently. As much as DaDakota's numerous posts tend to grate on people around here (myself included), I can respect him for at least being able to admit it when he has gone too far. Even I myself initially thought that some of the criticism directed at McGrady was unfounded and baseless. I was willing to alter my views when I saw some of them were wrong. Where I come from, we have an ancient proverb that says "a madman begins his journey to sanity the day he realizes that he is mad." Here's what everyone is trying to tell you: name-calling is childish, unproductive and ruins the quality of an otherwise great BBS. I respect your right to have your opinions about McGrady, even if I disagree with some of them. But the "vagina" and "she-mac" references have no place among self-respecting adults.
The funny thing about all of this is that you don't see the same fans standing up for Rafer, Battier or Yao when they get criticized. It is fairly obvious who is a team fan, and who simply is protecting the image of their favorite player. So the old "We are all fans of every Rockets argument" doesn't hold a lot of water. Actions speak louder than words. DD
T-Mac's a headcase. He's a distraction. The Rockets would have been better off if they had moved him in the off-season and gotten somebody like Billups. Ball movement is much, much better with McGrady (and Artest) sitting. McGrady's got a ton of bad habits with regards to Adelman's offense because he prefers to play one on one in isolation and he doesn't have the discipline to fix his bad habits.
Thanks for quoting my DDingleberry, I get to read his little DD hatoraide......it should be time for him to put his nametag on and get back to work soon though. DD
The fact remains that McGrady is not a motivated player and deserves to be called SheMac! Sure he carried through the regular season, but why didn't he show up for all of the games in the playoffs. Superstars make their team play better and motivate each other. If you look at it from McGrady's point of view he is trying to give an excuse up front if the Rockets don't get out of the first round again. This is the reason why McGrady is too honest about his knee. If he would just shut up and play the game and earn his $20Mil Per year, then people would even forgive him for not advancing in the playoffs as long as the effort is there. However, he has had a reputation for quitting on his team in the past, so he defenitely deserves the "SheMac" way to go! This is Yao's team now, he needs to realize that he is in a America now and make his presence felt as a vocal leader instead of the quiet Bagwell like leader. If Yao criticized McGrady in public then I say its about damn time. At the end of the day, I would rather have a 7 foot 6 guy who scores 25pts, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game leading the team than a 6 foot 8 player who shows up half of the time in my opinion!
What attempt? I asked those questions because I was genuinely interested in the answers. Also what criticism precisely are you directing at me? Are you accusing me of insulting McGrady? I think the harshest term I've thrown out is "headcase". Here's a suggestion: if you don't like the name calling directed at McGrady just ignore the thread. And I'll restate my point--while insulting McGrady is kind of understandable given that he's a public figure that in no way justifies insulting the original poster. Unless of course you're McGrady in disguise.
Why do you care if somebody accuses T-Mac of having a vagina? Are you McGrady? The only people here with a legitimate gripe are posters like hayesfan who don't like female anatomy being used to indicate weakness.
DD -- 1. There are lots of fans who defend Rafer, Battier, Yao and Chuck when they get criticized. 2. This discussion, as MayoRocket astutely pointed out, isn't about criticizing T-Mac. What we take exception to is the offensive insults.
Why should the rockets fans calm down, as a paying customer we are entitled to professionalism and til date McGrady has not portrayed that!
Battier was called the Teflon man.....Yao has been called Yao M-iss-ing, Rafer has been called far worse. I think you get my point, people are way more defensive about Tmac than they are about the other players, it makes for an inconsistent argument. You can't hide behind the facade of "Respect all the players" when you don't stand up for them all equally. It just doesn't hold up. I understand people liking Tmac, he can be an exciting player, and no one wants to find out their heros are slackers, or there is not a Santa Claus, or any other mythos that breaks their little dream world. I get it....but to complain about the name calling of their favorite player and not complain about it in ALL instances is hypocritical to me. DD
JeopardE, Unless everyone in here is complaining in all the Rocket threads where teamates are made fun of with derogatory names, then the argument just does not hold up. DD
Teflon Don - Battier thread Rafer called Airballston in this thread Yao Mr. Unclutch So unless the same people defending Tmac are in all these threads complaining about the name calling....I would think the argument is moot, and it is really that those people don't like Tmac being called SheMac.... DD
Since you want an answer: I'm calling you out for defending the OP's name-calling. And no, I will not ignore the thread. It is offensive to me, and it is offensive to many others. I don't have to be a woman to find words like this offensive. Obviously you have no affinity for discretion and civility, but you shouldn't be surprised when people take exception to gratuitous insults. Insulting McGrady is not "understandable because he's a public figure" -- those words are offensive, period.
Geez you are so pathetic. I guess you didn't know McGrady quit on the team and your here arguing why people dislikes McGrady.
