The Hawks just aren't looking to add salary yet. You can tell they are intent on stockpiling talent with their plethora of wing players, and they probably won't be matching any big offers for Harrington (who is extremely overrated on this board). First time in a while they are drafting for need over talent this year (if they go with Shelden), but they should be making a playoff push a couple years from now. That's when they will be looking at moving around players and filling in needs.
If Sheldon goes to Atlanta, then the rumored deal with the Hornets would be off. But it would seem like the Sonics would be willing to trade their pick at #10 because they probably wanted Sheldon. I say we jump on the #10, so we can get Brewer and either Redick, Carney, Simmons, Johnson, or Foye (a Brewer/Foye backcourt does sound pretty good). And if someone drops then we could potentially get a Thomas/Roy/Gay at #8 and Brewer at #10. That would be perfect.
Do you think the Sonics would rather trade the #10 pick to a western conference team or to someone in the east. I could be wrong, but I just don't see the Sonics helping the Rockets future unless they got alot in return.
If Shelden is indeed picked by Atlanta, one of the top 6 will drop, but it will be a PF. I know it. I'm not interested in any of the PF's though...
I say we offer Seattle our trade exception and cash for #10 and Danny Fortson, who will find ways to piss off the new management. Big time salary dump for Seattle. New Orleans knows this draft is 6 deep, so we still have a chance at 12 and 15 if Thomas drops to us.
I think it will depend on who is willing to give up a pick in 2007. That's supposed to be a deep draft, and I would assume that only teams that are confident of getting a low first rounder would even consider trading out of that draft. And then it depends on who wants to get better sooner rather than later.
I don't know if it's Atlanta that wants to draft Shelden Williams. Might very well be the Rockets. I'd give up Stro and Luther and the #32, if necessary. (Hoping to keep the 8th pick, you see.) It would be a fair deal. Shelden Williams at 5 is a reach but JVG said he wanted all new players; obviously he would see SW as a Ben Wallace type (4/backup 5). And maybe Minnesota at #6 was interested in Shelden? He was scheduled to work out for the TWolves.
According to the article, he's cancilled workouts with teams picking 6 thru 10. That includes the Rox & TWolves. My money is on Atlanta or Charlotte(they are close to Dukedom) or maybe even the Blazers, with the leading contender being the Hawks.
