so you don't think his defense was great v. the jazz in this series? he guarded whoever he was on very well, even better than shane battier, our best defender during the reg. season.
He had his moments, but he doesnt consistently guard the opposing team's star players. Tmac prefers to exert his energies on offense (during the games that Yao has been out). And even though he's only exerting these energies on one side of the ball, he will still disappear for long stretches b/c he's "tired". So if you think he's capable of effectively playing both offense and defense (against the opposing team's good scorers), look for him to play about 20 minutes a game.
Don't complain about tiredness you hypocrite, you're the one that takes Manu over McGrady when Manu gets chippy when playing 30mpg
that's for the reg. season. i was referring to this year (or every year in the playoffs). he played great defense every game in this playoffs. adelman switched him onto battier's man many times
So you think that his stamina during the regular season will magically double when the playoffs roll around? Amazing.
Hypocrite? There seems to be a misunderstanding. Either you dont know what the word means or you havent read all the posts. In any case, you should go do some more reading.
again, if tmac is challenged, he'll rise to the occasion. tmac has pride too. in 04-05 before we got battier, JVG would put him on lebron, pierce... hell, even in 05-06, JVG did that and he was injured that year and he did well. it's just that tmac is often on scrubs that he slacks off b/c HE IS ON SCRUBS. nobody guards the scrubs. that's why they're scrubs. when yao is healthy, our team doesn't need tmac to score 25-30 pts a game. so yes, i think if he stays healthy (which is a big if) to play 75 games, he can play defense. it's a matter if the coach wants to put the onus on him. usually, adelman or JVG or doc rivers only want tmac to guard the best scorer in the playoffs.
his numbers in every single statistic sure magically improved significantly when the playoffs rolled around! Clutch players bring it when its needed. Whether it was enough or not... well it takes 5.
Defense cannot be measured solely by statistics. If you had read my previous post, you would've known I was referring to his defense. And in any case, statistics dont tell the whole story.
Dont really recall his defensive performance in 05-06, but he was still in his prime in 04-05. He's fallen a lot since then. My point was that he already gets tired playing offense. If he's asked to guard a quality player, then his energy will deplete even faster. I honestly dont believe he can be an effective 2-way player for an extended period of time. I believe he's poorly conditioned. The guy seems to get tired from running the pick and roll. And its not like he's running fast breaks either. He brings the ball up the court nice and slow. Its simply amazing that you can come to a definitive conclusion regarding Adelman's game plan for Tmac. Especially since we had significant injuries and Adelman's entire playoff career with the Rockets has lasted a grand total of 6 games. And last year, I dont really recall Tmac spending lots of time guarding Deron Williams or Boozer. Do you?
wekko, deron is a PG and boozer is the PF, how do you expect a SG/SF to guard them? even your boy kobe doesn't guard deron. basically what i meant was battier struggled mightily to guard his guy, which was harpring and tmac was switched onto him many times. tmac was supposed to guard brewer primarily. but he switched onto ak and harpring b/c battier struggled against those guys defensively. and in fact, tmac switched onto boozer a few times unintentionally and blocked him twice in his face via single coverage.
I would say YES. But i want us to get younger and more athletic....do whatever it takes to get Brandon Roy!!!!
Look man, this was your original quote: If this statement is true, then that means that Tmac guarded Boozer/Williams. I have never considered Harpring to be one of the best scorers in the playoffs. AK and Brewer arent great scorers either... So your defensive assessment of Tmac is based on a few unintentional switches and a few blocks. Awesome.
There's no question. I'd do a T-Mac for Sheed/Billups trade in a heartbeat. In one stroke you've solved the PG situation and picked up a tough, hard nosed competitor in Sheed. They may be getting older, but so is T-Mac. And the window for the Rockets is commonly accepted to be only one or two years from now.
