I don't know who gets the worse end of the deal, y'all or us. You only have to shave your face. That's a nice small surface area, relatively speaking. On the other hand, the surface isn't even and I can see a lot of ways you might cut yourself. Not to mention that you have to do it more often. I prefer guys not to have facial hair (at least my guys). Not sure why this is. There are also certain female rites of passage during puberty that you can't wait for, then you find out what a pain it's going to be.
It is funny how much more men complain about this sort of stuff than women. In truth, I think we got the better end of this bargain too (along with the peeing standing up, that's killer!) -- much less surface area, and it's not really gross if we don't shave, it's just kind of unkempt or sloppy. But for women, its . . . eeew.
believe it or not, some guys actually like it when we don't shave. But we do it, because we don't want to gross out the rest of the world (or ourselves). [really, though, when it hasn't grown out very far, is it so bad? I know some girls shave every day, but who has that much time? It takes a while...]
LOL. It really doesn't take THAT long to shave ... a few strokes on each side, rinse, chin area, rinse ... done.
a few strokes on each side, rinse, chin area, rinse got it done in high school for me. those were the days. and since this one teacher always noticed facial hair, i'd shave every day so it was short and easy to do. but that won't cut it any more. unless i want some serious cuts or razor burn. gotta lather up, shave carefully, go against the grain if you wanna feel like you've even shaved at all, do the whole neck region thing (which is where most of the cuts happen). for a long time, like basically all of undergrad, i shaved once a week. basically, once it got so long that it was itchy and nasty, i shaved. once you got past 2 or 3 days, it became too much trouble so i'd just put if off. finally though, this last semester, i started just making myself do it every other day. that way it's always pretty short and fairly easy. you can keep a razor going longer and you don't end up pulling out hairs like you do when it's longer. damn is that painful, give me a cut anyday over yanking the hair out. i also switched to the mach3 vibrating one (can't remember the exact name now) and it rules. i used an electric razor for so long b/c it seemed cleaner but once you wait a week a lot of the hair is pulled out if you're not careful. i wish nair was for your face. if they ever come up with a cream you just rub on your face and wash it off a few minutes later i'll buy it. as for the men vs women argument, i'd say we have it about even.
This is a little off topic, but a funny story that reminds me of the men/women battle of the shave. My has a wax kit that she uses for to keep up her lady appearance. I used to help her wax and that was always difficult for me because I knew that it hurt her. She would do it though. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to share her pain and I had always wondered what it would be like to have no hair in my armpits. So... I agreed to let her wax my armpits. I have never done anything so painful in my life. The only reason that I finished was because I thought that it was supposed to hurt so bad. Well, apparently I am allergic to the wax and my armpits got really swollen and bloodshot. It sounds gross, but it looked grosser. I couldn't put my arms down for days. I had to play a gig that night and it was torture. Of course everyone made fun of me for being so stupid and no one understood why I wanted hairless armpits. I'm not going to say that it was worth it, because it wasn't, but I still keep my armpits shaved (not waxed) and I like them that way.
I hate shaving so much, during the cold months, when I wear jeans and pants all the time, I don't shave my legs for weeks at a time. And the sad part is that I don't use shaving cream or soap or anything... Too much surface area to sit there and lather up, then go back and shave. I'm too damn lazy for that. So it's not like I have to go through some huge ordeal, it's just that nobody's going to see my legs unless I want them to, in which case I would make it a point to shave. However, I absolutely have to shave the pits though... Can't live with hairy pits. EEEW.
That's pretty much how I feel. I'll avoid shaving entirely on the weekends unless something important comes up. The neck is my most sensitive area. It's hard manuevering around my Adam's apple.
I hate shaving too. I'm usually pretty lazy about. I'll shave the sides, mustache area, and neck about 3 times a week. I usually let it grow on my chin, and just completely shave about once every couple weeks.
If you need a good shaving lotion. The best I have ever used is the Total Shaving Solution. Its an oil and comes in a small bottle. You just put a few drops in your hand after wetting your face and rub it in. Wait a few seconds for it to soak in and go at it. I've never had razor burn since using the product. Go to the website and you can have a free sample mailed to you. I was skeptical at first but I've been using it for about 3 years and will never go back to gels or foams. http://www.totalshavingsolution.nu/
What's the big deal about shaving? I shave every day, because I'd look like a slob if I didn't. Bunch of crybabies.
I hate shaving but Norelco Advantage is where it is at. I love mine and would never go back to a non-electric.
I use a Braun electric to shave above my lip because it's pretty sensitive, but an electric just won't cut it for me anywhere else. Ends up taking me a lot longer because I have to keep going over the area.
I shave with a double-edged blade every day. Have to. Takes me about 10 minutes. I used to use an electric. But, one day, I had a bad experience (see below). I hate it, but it must be done. By 6:00, I have heavy shadow. I can't tell if men have it easier. Women have it harder in more ways, but... damn, I hate running a double-edged razor blade all over my face every friggin' day. To compare that to shvaing my legs every now-and-then, no comparison. WOMEN cons: Have more are to cover while shaving It's more cumbersome to shave (backs of legs, armpits, etc.) sensitive areas to share (behind knee, armpit, etc.) It's not socially acceptable to be unshaved (hairy legs, pits) Pros: Unshaved areas can be covered with clothes, so it's not necessary to shave daily MEN: cons: unshaved area can't be covered with clothes, so shaving must be done more frequently sensitive areas to share (behind neck, near nostrils, etc.) Pros: Area to shave is smaller Less cumbersome to shave (stand over sink) It's socially acceptable to be unshaven (have a beard, mustache) MY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH ELECTRIC RAZOR I used to use an electric. It wasn't a very clean shave, but was more convenient. Unfortunately, I have very thick hair. Too thick. One day, the electric razor choked on my facial hair. The blades broke and pieces of the metal got stuck in my face and facial hair. I got to pull broken metal blades out of my face, and I have to pull some of the hair out of my face in order to free myself from the shrapnel. The razor was stuck to my face, and it took me a bit of time and pain to eventually remove it. All this occurred while covered in blood from the gashes it left. -- droxford
I really hope you guys are messing with T-J for the sake of it. Guys these days have to shave other areas. If you're not doing it yet, you are gross to a lot of people. (and I'm not talking "all of it". But it needs to be trimmed, at the very least.)
