An easy trade: Send Martin to the Wolves for, say, the 18th pick plus the partially guaranteed contract of Brad Miller and Martell Webster. Send Webster and Miller to New Orleans as for Okafor + 10th pick. Easy enough.

Damn. Beat me to it! BEAT ME TO IT!

New Orleans dumps a lot of salary for the price of the pick and can still amnesty Ariza if need be.

So that would give picks 10,14,16,18 plus Montiejunas and Morris(basiically still a rookie) to put in the rotation while only losing Kevin Martin?

As it should be. It's all about going all in for Dwight.

There is a minimum team salary, but New Orleans may still have reason to want to get rid of the salaries of Okafor or Ariza. This still gives them many opportunities. They can use the cap space to eat salary for picks (like OKC did on several occasions, allowing them to get the draft pick for Ibaka, among others), they can use the flexibility to retain Kaman and/or Landry while keeping cap flexibility, they can even sign guys to 1-year contracts in order to have cap space again in 2013.

Trading away salary for them is hardly "burning money."

That's until Commissioner Basketball Reasons steps in and makes teams give the Hornets a first rounder for Ariza and Okafor.

Rockets aren't going to follow your plan. Give it up.

Not until draft day. Better chance than getting Howard.

You can always "consolidate" some of the picks to move up, trade them for 2013 picks, or worst come to worst, send them to Orlando for Dwight Howard.

How bout The Bear + Mavs pick for Okieflour and #10? Is that enough sweet-n-low for the 10 spot?

Absolutely correct as always Carl, but if they take back $4 million in salary for Okafur, and Gordon walks they will have to acquire over $20 million in salary even taking Davis's rookie scale into consideration. Seems like that would be a very large hole to fill. I personally would be worried about making it back up to the minimum salary. IMHO it would be better to keep Okafur and deal him as an expiring next summer. I guess we see why I will never be working in an NBA front office. LOL

    Want a PG in return.
And yes, sounds like Hornets are willing to move their 10th pick. But you'd better give them a starting-caliber point guard in return.

    Doubtful ;)

Well, what do you know- we just happen to have an extra starting level point guard...

That works but includes involving a 3rd team .... and moving Martin while adding yet another pick meaning they would have 4 picks between 10 & 18.
Thats a lot of youth - They would have to move 2-3 of those picks for future picks or a considerable upgrade at a position of need.

Question: Could they send NY's #16 to NJ to satisfy the terms of the Twill trade freeing up future picks to be traded ?

There is also the possibility of aquiring other picks earlier than NO's #10 Martin might be an attractive piece to a team like Tornoto or Portland.

If we give up Lowry for the #10 pick Morey deserves to be fired. We should get no lower than the #6 for him. Hell, Portland gave up the oldest member of their "core" in Wallace for that #6. There's no way in hell we're giving up our best, youngest trade piece on a friendly contract for a late lotto pick.
