Livingston is one of the very very few young PGs that didn't really on speed and athleticism. So the injury wasn't as hard to return from.
You would think that during his recovery he would have worked on his jump shot a little bit, no? I still think he can have a career in this league, but it will probably be almost solely because of his court vision and iq. And just because he is 6'6" or 6'7" doesn't mean he can guard shooting guards very well. And I'm assuming he has lost a little bit of quickness as well so checking the quicker points can become really hard for him. But, I'm glad he was able to make it back and not end up like Jason Williams.
If the Rockets had Livingston, they could have ocassionally featured a lineup of: PG: Livingston 6'7" SG: Martin 6'7" SG: Ariza 6'8" PF: Scola 6'9" C: Hayes 6"6" Imagine the smallest guy on the court is your center
That's why Lowry's a MUCH better fit for the Rockets -- his ability to draw fouls, combined with that of Martin and Yao, is going to put the Rockets in the bonus much earlier next year. And like DM says, when the Rockets are in the bonus, Yao becomes nearly impossible to stop.
except penny hardaway was a great player before he was injured. livingston was nothing more than potential.
i really liked Shaun Livingston pre-injury. he was a mini-mcgrady but played really smart and not forcing shots. i'm glad he's doing quite well after suffering that horrible injury.
I remember when he was drafted out of highschool. Everybody was labling him as the second coming of Jason Kidd but taller. The kid has a tremendous amout of baskeball IQ with great court vision but was a lousy shooter. They were saying the guy had the potential to get a triple double on any given night. He no longer has that ability since his injury but I could see the guy averaging 12ppg 8ast 4reb with 35mpg. He would be a great backup for Brooks if we needed to part with Lowry in a trade for a C. Bosh. He could play along side Brooks and guard opponents shooting guards or small forwards. The only problem is that he is soft and avoids contact ever since his injury and therefore will not battle for rebounds or draw many fouls.
Yeah, hes back. He's doing great so far with the Wizards check out these highlights of him so far http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3rgLD3ST5g
"Massive matchup problem for opposing teams"? Is this just because he's a 6'7 PG? He was on his way to being a decent player, nothing more. At this point in his career, he'll be lucky to ever play meaningful minutes on a good team. He should get major props from coming back from such a gruesome injury. I'm just glad to see him out there.
Yes, with a great post game and the ability to make passes Deron and CP3 can't because of his height...
A great post game? I've heard it all now. And despite his height, he will never be the passer that CP3 is. I've seen Livingston make a few sweet passes, but let's not be ridiculous. Can everyone take a deep breath and remember who we are talking about? Not a set of measurements, but real person named Shaun Livingston who wasn't nearly as good as some people think he was. I'll say it again: This is a Ramon Sessions discussion, part II. Sometimes players on other teams seem better than they really are because we know just enough (or little) about them to form vastly inflated opinions.

I was saying Livingston can be A backup PG in the league. No way I'd do a straight swap of those 2. Kyle Lowry to Livingston is like Aaron Brooks to Steve Blake. His current Wizards situation is right where he should be. He still has to be doing something right to shoot over 50% from the field, lack of driving in or not.
Have you even watched him play? Apart from pick and rolls, nearly all his offense comes from the post. And he wasn't saying he is as great a passer as Paul is, just that he can make passes that Paul can't because of his height. Ramon Sessions? Please.
I watched him with the Clips and with the Thunder; not so much with the Wizards. I know he produced more while with the Wiz the last couple of weeks but his entire tenure there was garbage time. You may have missed the Ramon Sessions hype last summer. They are two very different players but the gushing about what kind of player Livingston will be reminds me of the utter nonsense about Sessions last year. I plan on following him at least the first part of next season to see how he does. I hope your optimism is correct. Don't want him on the Rockets over Lowry. As 3rd string I would welcome him to Houston.
Does Livingston's injury affect his athletism much? I know he tore and dislocated his knee and ligaments, but these aren't things that actually damage the bones is it?
