Miami cut him for a reason. This is a guy that can play multiple positions that Miami needs depth in. When he was healthy he was a lot better than guys on that roster. This leads me to believe, and I may be going out on a limb here, that he is not so healthy. You want a free look? Get him on a summer league team. He'll play five games with all the minutes he wants with multiple practice sessions. Sign him to a ten day contract and he'll be getting twenty minutes of gametime max. Maybe two practice sessions too.
While I agree with your motives, we really don't need to sign him to a 10-day contract in order to give him a full evaluation. All we need to do is invite him down. However, with regret, I think he is as done as Jay Williams.
Livingston's career is over. Much like Jay Williams, just not an injury a pg can come back from. Livingston was never a good shooter either, which further complicates his situation. The explosiveness is gone. It's a sad story
should we look at every scrub point guard that gets released as a possible "take a look" 10 day deal? Dee Brown got cut by the Suns today.
I'm all for inviting him in for a look, and a 10-day contract is no risk at all, but I agree with those saying he's finished. This is a guy that couldn't crack the BOTTOM of the Miami rotation. Chris Quinn and Marcus Banks are in front of him. He had all the potential you could hope for, but that body was made of crystal. Evan
What is so bad about taking a look? If he pans out, it could be a solid pick up for us. If he doesn't let him lose..
why now? why Livingston? how many 10 day contracts/League Vet minimums do we need to sign to take a look and see if they pan out? you can sign any NBDL Star right now and be better off than with SL. i just don't understand the mentality of bringing in the guy who suffered possibly the worst injury in the history of sports. it's quite a reach, and in my opinion it is the complete opposite direction the team needs to be going in.
I would take him in a split second, I mean have u seen our point guard play of late, besides rafers late game steals in the hawks game he has kinda sucked, and im a big brooks fan so dont get me wrong here but he has been off lately too, not to mention if anyone of them get hurt then we are only down to one point guard and well 42 minutes a game is a bit much for anybody.
This was supposed to be a rehab year for Livingston. He never was expected to be 100% this year. According to the article, they cut him to avoid paying him the remainder of his salary and because the guy wasn't capable of helping the team. Waste of time to bring in another guard with a gimpy knee for even a ten day look.
I get it: If someone doesn't agree with your take, by definition they would have to be "non basketball people." Because anyone who knows basketball couldn't possibly come to a different conclusion than you, right? Which means, of course, that most of the GMs in the league would qualify as "non basketball people" since they don't want Marbury anywhere near their teams. With Marbury, it's pretty simple: He's talented, but on a scale of 1-10, his leadership skills are about -7. Teams have historically SUCKED with him on the roster. Then miraculously recovered once he moves on. Another way of looking at it: Anyone who knows ANYthing about basketball knows there are some very talented boneheads out there who won't make your team better, no matter how crappy the players on your roster are.
Has anybody actually seen him play this year? I've seen my fair share of Heat games but I never saw him get in. I'm curious how his mobility looked. Any explosiveness? Did he look comfortable moving? Those are factors I would need to be sold on before I brought him in on even a 10-day contract. Kind of pointless to sign him to a 10-day if you know he's physically unfit to play.
Damn, I still see him dominating the court while wearing Clippers jersey. Freaky injury, that's the ugliest injury I've ever seen in the NBA. Had a potential to be Magic Johnson ala PG though...
I think it would be worth it only because I'm sure Tmac would try to convince the media that he and Livingston had the same knee injury.
