Sharon Angle StupidiTea: tells Hispanic students they look Asian

umm are you stereotyping all Asians have small slanted eyes?

Also to be fair I don't think it's that outrageous that someone can mistaken her as having Asian heritage.

 

It's just politics.. people like to make a big deal out of nothing and place race games all the time.

Her quote is no where near as disastrous as some of Harry Reid's

 

Yes. I am not a fan of Reid. But like I said, the appropriate exclamation is "but we're talking a bout Sharon Angle here", not the other way around.

The woman is a lunatic. Reid may be a corrupt douche canoe, but at least he has some semblance of rationality and intelligence.

Maybe its better to have a loony in the Senate over someone that is proven to be a corrupt douche? I dont know ...

being called Asian? not all that ludicrous? No idea who the asian lady is just did a google image search and it was on the first page.

Anyways I've heard lots of odd comments from coworkers, friends, and people I have met traveling the world on business about someone's ethnicity that might shock you. Some people really cant tell as well as others. So what is the big deal that Angle claims she has been called Asian?

ok i did some research on Angle. I see how she may have some extreme views on certain issues.. I guess this really is another case of voting on who sucks less.

 

I went to school with this one girl. She had a German last name, which isn't an uncommon thing here in America. I knew her fairly well. She was half Korean, half white. I spend the first six months thinking she was Hispanic. I didn't learn otherwise until I went to her house to study and said something to the effect of "who are all these Asian people" when I saw her family photos. She laughed and said she gets that all the time.

I dated a Czech-American girl for several years. Olive skin with dark, almost black hair, round face, slanted eyes. Many people thought she was at least part Asian. She also tanned really well. When she had a tan, people would come up to her and start speaking Spanish, which she herself didn't speak.

Couple years back, I addressed a guy in Spanish. Turns out he was Choctaw Indian.

I was in Peru in 2006. Bunch of Japanese-looking, Spanish-speaking Peruvians down there in Peru, with some who don't look quite Japanese or quite Peruvian.

Point is: it happens. Getting all in a bunch over it is stupider than Angle not realizing that her opponents would take this and dip it in racially-tinged chocolate before serving it up to the hypersensitive masses.

My neighbor married a korean lady, he's black. what was funny is she had three kids from a previous marriage whose father was black, any way that's neither here nor there

I had been in my neighbor's house, he was previously married, and had a kid, anyway after he married the Korean lady, his house began to have this really strong wierd smell. I never asked my neighbor what it was, didn't want to insult him.

so later in life, I'm working as a floating bank teller (bank teller at different branches) I'm working in this branch in Spring Branch where a lot of Korean's live. A lot of them own these all cash businesses and they have these deposit where I have to count a lot of cash.

A lot of the cash smelled like my neighbor's house. finally I ask what the hell is that smell, and the teller who works there normally tells me its garlic. Koreans eat so much that it bleeds and collects on the cash.

Sure there are some similarities but I don't see how in anything more than a passing glance that Sharon Angle could be mistaken for the woman above.

And I have traveled the world too and met all sorts of people who look all sorts of ways. I know a lot of mixed race people but Sharon Angle looks more Caucasian than even those.

She can call herself Bantu for all I care I just find it bizarre to make such a claim. Actually I take that back. She is making that claim to deflect criticism in regard to her stance on immigration. IN that case it reeks of desperation.

 

I don't even know how many people would ask me when I was by myself if finalsbound was Asian. She does look pretty Asian because of her dark hair and slightly slanted eyes.

But it was always weird that everybody would want to know and would wait to ask me when she wasn't around.

 

Slightly tangent but in Japan a derogatory term for Koreans is "garlic eater".

 

I wasn't defending her, just pointing out the idiocy of it all. And like I said, her (or her handlers) not realizing that such a comment would be blown completely out of proportion is plenty stupid in and of itself.

 

I don't think she meant for her tiny lil quote be blown out of proportion like what the media did here.

 

I agree, its not that big of an issue but I will admit that I am criticizing (Because that is a lot of what we do on D&D) her for what strikes me as bizarre and desperate move to as you say bond with her Hispanic audience or as I suspect to deflect criticism of her immigration stand.
