Ignorance and more ignorance! Just because you found this site 24 months doesn't qualify and gives more support of any kind that you possess more basketball knowledge than me. I'll put my 19-20 years against you any day of the week and twice on Saturdays. SO you will make the "great" decision on paying 14.6 million for a guy that may totally disrupt your team for a whole season. The Spoon trade was made to get rid of a another large contrat in Moochie Norris. Mo T has shown very good point production off the bench. Taylor and JJ are key role players for this team. Come on not say it with me, "R - O - L - E P - L - A - Y - E - R - S!" All-stars and role players win championships. I never said the SAR is a bad player, but he would be better in the East. There is no way SAR is in the Top 5 Forwards in the NBA. We do not need another 20 pt player on our team. Especially if he is the wrong fit like my example of Walker and Jamison.

If SAR is a bad fit, then so are Juwan and MoT...why would he disrupt the team, yet JHoward will be a great fit? They are almost the same exact player, except Juwan is older and has a much longer contract.

You keep bringing up AWalker and AJamison like they destroyed the Mavs...the Mavs didn't have a C like Yao to play with in Dallas. They are a different situation b/c they had 3 redundant PFs and no true C (Jam, Walk, Dirk)...if we moved SAR for MoT and Spoon, we would have a starter (Reef), and solid backup C/PF (Howard), and a legit C (Yao) with no redundancies.

And considering that the three of them (JHo, MoT, and Spoon) make more combined than SAR, I don't think money is an issue if two of them are moved in exchange...it almost evens out.

All this crap about complaining in Portland is the first time he has ever made waves. He didn't complain when he was sent to the abyss of Atlanta. He never complained about playing for perennial doormat Vancouver.

We are all worshipping Tmac for doing the same thing, so if SAR might disrupt the whole team, then I would counter that Tmac is a bigger threat to do that than anyone.

Oh, and just to see if you are really as knowledgeable, what was SAR's name before he changed it?

Also, what other schools was he considering (name 2) before committing to Cal?

Milos... thanks for verbalizing what I was trying to say. And I would have said it if I have not been so busy eating LJS chicken planks.

After rereading most of this thread I have noticed an interesting contradiction among SAR detractors; it seems you want to have your cake and eat it too:

On one hand you have the following:

"He's overrated because he was expected to be a primary player, he was a very high draft pick. he is paid like a primary player."
"He's not the impact player people thought he would be." - tinman

Here you are saying you don't want him b/c he is not a star, but a role player...although a very well-paid one. Tinman is making the case that we shouldn't get him b/c he is not a true star.

But then, on the other hand, you have the same people saying things like this:

"We don't need a 20 and 8 guy if we have the best scorer in the game and NOW the best center in the West." - tinman

Now you are claiming you don't want him b/c he is too good to be a role player.

    So, which is it?

You start off by saying he is not a legit star, and that his production is inflated by playing on sorry teams, then from the other side of your mouth you say that we can't use him because we don't need a big scorer and he is one star too many for this team...

    Which is it?

Is he a star who won't fit with Yao and Tmac or a scrub who isn't productive enough to start at PF on this team?

You have to pick one, because he can't be an overpaid stiff and ball-dominating star at the same time.

24 months ago you were still in high school.

I don't believe in agism... but there is alot to be said having been around the game.

I haven't wanted to throw this out before because it matter little... but I am a middle school/high school basketball coach. And there have been years where I have had stud players who carried the team... and the next year... the same stud player put up the same numbers and we lost. It is all about who else is on the TEAM.

Milos' example of Vlad is a good one. A player is only as good as his teammates.

A Rocket's example. Hakeem made the careers of Mario E, Bullard, K. Smith. Without Hakeem... those guys would never had received the props that they did. Conversely, without them... Hakeem never would have won his two championships.

Put SAR in the right situation and he will win. Put SAR on the Pistons instead of Sheed... and they win the championship in 4.

Not necessarily, Like you said it's the teammates. As you may know, chemistry is very important in the pros. Inserting SAR instead of Rasheed may make the Pistons lose. Rasheed is NOT a better player than SAR, but Wallace's defense and key shots was a huge asset to the Pistons. My point is that you can't just throw in a good player and expect the team to be great. Like you said, Hakeem and the Rockets don't win in '94 or '95 if they didn't have Elie, Cassell and Kenny.

Seriously you need to rethink everything you've ever thought about basketball after that statement, maybe even think the exact opposite.

That is just IMPOSSIBLE, they don't even get to the Finals with Rahim, they don't even improve with Rahim, my main man Kelvin Cato would do a better job for them. Rasheed went there and added a little offense but more than everything else DEFENSE and TEAMWORK, without him they don't start much less set a record for keeping teams under 70 points, they don't get home court for game 7 against the Nets either, they don't embarrass the Lakers.

There is not one thing Rahim could do better than Rasheed, not ONE. The biggest thing that seperates the two, aside from defense, is that Rasheed is one of the few stars in the game who actually love the game and care about team and winning over himself and individual glory. That's why Rahim wants to leave right? He has a better chance at tasting what it is like to WIN in the NBA with the Blazers and he still wants to leave because he isn't the focus of the team. He's a joke man, a clown!

Sorry I am not a SAR worshiper. First, teams are built first with your star players. We are constructing our team with Yao & Tmac so I doubt McGrady will disrupt the team. Second, SAR is more of a defensive liability than Howard in the West. Now Milos, please look past the game stats. Third, your icon struggled in Portland. All of his numbers went down because the coaches couldn't decide where to play him. Howard is not a defensive beast, but he is better than Taylor and SAR. Again, look past career stats.
Forth, Dallas was a much better team before they brought in Walker and Jamison. How do you think the Mavs will do this year with the current collection of players. Look at Jordan's Bulls. They never have the most talented players at each position, but they all jelled togther. You had Jordan and Pippen doing the scoring. You had Rodman rebounding. You had Harper setting up the offense, and Kerr/Paxson for the jumpers. If you added another scorer, it might had affected the team. The team was balanced and had the right chemistry together. That equated to 6 rings!

Have you been smokin with Sheed?! Without doubt the man has skills... but he has been a malcontent his whole career. Remember all of the Ts and ejections. How was that for team play? Get yourself ejected and give the other team 2 - 4 points on free throws. Sheed has always been about himself. If he wasn't... don't you think that Okur would still be a Piston. They could afford both of them. Is Detroit going to be as good without Okur? No way. But Sheed would only stay if he got Okur's minutes. AND THAT IS A FACT. How is that for individual glory?

    This just in...
Jason Kidd is expected to demand a trade. How dare he. He must want individual glory before the team. He must suck then. We don't want a player like him because he sucks worse than SAR, TMac, Shaq, Walker, Stevie, and all the other players who want trades.

Abdur-Rahim's concerns are understandable... you don't take an all-star caliber player in his prime out of his natural position and make him a bench warmer..not unless you're gonna win a championship or something.
If we added him to the team, he would open up the floor for Yao and TMac bigtime.

Huh? Kidd could stay there and still be the star, he wants to win a ring though and the Nets are obviously doing their best to keep that from happening. This doesn't compare to Rahim's situation, or Marbury getting away from Garnett, or our very own Tracy getting away from his Vince Carter. They were jealouse of their teammates attention, despite the fact that they had a much better chance at winning if they stayed.

I don't smoke, HA! Malcontent? That's why his teammates and coaches have always loved the guy, because he's a malcontent, oh well. He gets extremely emotional at times, but that stems from his love for the game, not because he wants to cost his team a game, he's been the same since High School. They couldn't afford both of them, 50 million for Okur leaves the Pistons with a MLE for Sheed, he's worth way more. A healthy Dice will fill Okur's role perfectly, all he has to do is contribute for 12 minutes a game, EASY. Sheed will fill the exact same role next season as well, that role makes him the third option on offense, mostly used as a decoy, and a HUGE defensive pressence. I don't see any individual glory for him in that role, no double doubles, no All Star selections, just wins.

How does it not compare?! They all want to be traded someplace else where they would be the man and win. If you are going to say that SAR sucks because of his trade demands... TMac sucks.

Again, Kidd is already the man in New Jersey and will be the man if he stays, but he's about as far away from winning a ring as he was in Dallas. Well, I've never said he sucks, he is acting like a bum though. No, Tracy doesn't suck, at least not now, because he demanded a trade from the Magic, (that was still weak though) but his motives were at least tied into winning this time instead of wanting to be the man when he left Toronto.

Oh and another thing, Marbury and Tracy both admitted that they wanted to leave their teams, because of the fact that they wanted to be the MAN. Rahim isn't saying the exact same things, but he is more or less...

SAR is jealous of Zach Randolf is better than him at SAR's position

The other situations were different cause it wasnt about position.
it was just hating the person. SAR is just hating Zach's game.

    tinman,

This thread needs to be retired already, 177 posts, mostly debating the worth of a player that has no chance of wearing a Rocket jersey next season. I'm 99.99% sure that I will be retiring from this thread... Deuce!

That is right... I remember the quote... "I hate Zach's game. I need out of here."

Shandon Anderson would make a great addition to the rockets. Ditto for Vin.
