With or without Caron Bulter, it still works. Caron makes so little (about 1.5m I think) that it doesn't matter with the within 15% trade rule.

Shaq to Miami (all but done)

So now that Shaq is basically off to Miami, what are everyones thoughts on this trade? Even though we have played well against the Lakers in the past, I believe that this will only enhance our chances for a higher seed come playoff time. Looking at the Lakers projected lineup, I have to say that the highest seed they'll probably get is a 4.

having shaq in the east is good for the western conference as a whole. not to mention the rockets, now we see him twice and year...and likely once more in the finals. a team ran by shaq could be very good, you know stan van gundy and pat riley will know how the team needs to be coached.

Butler too?..anyhow, shaq is gonna tear the league apart next season. 30 points 14 boards a game season is on the cards.

yea he'll have huge numbers, especially in the east...it'll be fun to see the lakers not be as good as they have been too.

And the "fans" on the Lakers forums are already glad that fat, lazy, unmotivated Shaq is gone. Wade will be getting pissed at Shaq, while the Lakers will have the most exciting team in the NBA running up and down the court. Predicting championships in 2008 and 2009.

    What are they smoking?

Heard report on ESPN (the TV) that the Lakers may substitute Dorrell Wright for Caron Butler. Unofficial, of course.

Lakers could look decent next year, after this train-wreck-of-an-offseason, if Kobe re-ups, and Malone decides to come back at a reduced role.

    Gary Payton / ???
    Kobe Bryant / Kareem Rush
Caron Butler / Devean George / Luke Walton
Lamar Odom / Karl Malone / Slava Medvedenko
    Brian Grant / Brian Cook / ???

This is, of course, considering the Shaq deal goes through with the Heat. They don't look as bad as I originally anticipated, but they won't be close to a championship contender. In my eyes, they's struggle to make the top 4-5 playoff spots. I think the Rox will be a better team (as a whole) than this team next season (when we sign Fisher and ink a quality reserve center).

Kobe now gets a supporting cast awfully similar to Jordon's.
Lakers probably do this deal to let Kobe prove his way.

Penny may have been better than Kobe in 1999, but definitely not the 2000-current version. Especially these past 2 years...Kobe, when he's not in one of his selfish, over-dribbling moods, is pretty amazing.

For some reason, this seemed hilarious to me. But I agree with you, Penny at his best never really did do the things Byrant can do.

Actually, Stein makes a decent point - Kobe could kill this deal quickly if he wants to.
