Well that right there proves my point, if the second best to you makes someone a starter than you have an "ALLSTAR" definition all flawed.. Yao Ming does not DESERVE to be starting over Shaq. He deserves to come off the bench and IS the 2nd best but he is not superior to Shaq and I think you would agree. Which means he is not #1 He is #2 and #2 COMES OFF THE BENCH! Im so sick of what if's.. That all you have is what if's... What if's dont fly. What "IF" you won the lotto last wednesday? F- a "what if". What if Cuttino played smart everynight. What if S.Francis was more of a true point guard... F- a "what if" Speak the facts buddy... The fact is Koby is the man now.. I love Vince but I think Vince needs to step up and be that leader that he is supposed to be, being an "ALLSTAR". Kobe has Shaq.. So what... So What.. He still can take anyone in the league (except T-Mac) Ill take that any day.. Please tell me how much Vince gets double teamed these days... I would really like to know, he gets double teamed no more than S.Francis does... If you think that makes you the man, than I suggest you go back to B-bal 101 cause you know jack about balling. I always say if you have never played the game on some organized level, then you gets no love from me.. I dont think you have..... Up to college for me playa now what....
carayip you are right. There is a reason that it is called a "All Star Game". It is not the "Best Ten-Player Game".
jeff.. exactly what i was about to post.. good job tim . telling the truth about it... he didnt just win because of the votes from china
There was a Spanish balloting page. And there were also German/Yugo instruction pages. I guess you never went to nba.com, did you? Also Mandarin and Cantonese are spoken Chinese. All written Chinese is called Chinese. Please get your fact straight first before you speak. You, Mark Cuban and Shaq.
I never said it was written per se in Mandarin or Cantonese but "format" in terms of written language for Chinese. Please learn how to read before you pompously criticized. Furthermore, I never saw any balloting in SPanish/German considering the NBA.com board leading up to the Allstar was plastered with Chinese and Yao Ming. It must be one of those read the fine lines.
Uh... not true. I was ready to vote but didnt click on the banner fast enough. Next thing you know, all the ballots came up in Spanish. And Im not kidding.
pride comes before a fall. This aragant fool's time will come. Yao is liked more because he seems to be humble, a word that Shaq does not even know moreless can achieve because he is so in love with himself.
Aaiiii there's the rub. It's a Lakers backlash b/c they have 3 of the most aragant bastards in sports O'Neal, Bryant & Jackson.
Timing: You need a timeout. You've been here long enough to understand you don't respond to crap like that. Besides, your dislike of Yao is becoming readily apparent and more than a little frustrating. I mean, how often are you going to defend a guy who OBVIOUSLY sticks his foot in his mouth as often as he misses a freethrow particularly when he levels his criticisms at OUR PLAYER? Yao is the center on the team YOU SUPPORT, yet you would defend Shaq's idiocy towards him? How is that? As for meaningless Yao posts, this IS a freakin' Rockets board and Yao is a Rocket. What the hell do you expect? You think we're all just going to talk about how wonderful Shaq is and when he acts like a jerk and Yao is the object of his comments, we are all just going to sit here and say, "Well, the guy is so talented. He is better than Yao. There is no need to slam him"??? There is no denying Shaq is the most dominant center in the league. There is no denying that he deserves every accolade and every ring he has received. But, that doesn't give him the right to act like a jerk towards Yao and think he won't get called on it. I particularly find it galling that when Shaq made obviously stereotypical and ignorant remarks in fake Chinese, members of the African American community who are so quick to scream racism when blacks are being slurred stood painfully silent. Where was Johnny Cochran? Where was Al Sharpton? Where was Jesse Jackson? How is what Shaq did any different than Trent Lott's idiotic comments? Why the double standard? I mean, can you imagine Bill Russell or Magic Johnson or Larry Bird or Michael Jordan behaving that way? They knew better and so should Shaq and no amount of talent on the floor protects him from criticism off the floor. In fact, it is BECAUSE of his greatness that he must be held to a higher standard. It comes with the territory and he's a smart guy. He knows better. To act otherwise is showing his true colors. And when you are a Rocket fan, I don't care how great the guy is on the floor, there is NO defense for his crappy comments towards OUR PLAYER. Period.
OK. I quit. It seems you are a fan of Shaq/Lakers more than Yao/Rockets. And Jeff, thanks for your words.
Great post, Jeff. This is after all a Rox board. As for those hypocritical affirmative action activists who looked the other way, I now understand what they meant by equal rights for all.
Why the double standard? What's worse...the KKK lynching a black man, or Shaq mimicking a Chinese accent? What's worse...a 15 year old black kid in Mississippi (60's) whistling to a white lady and then later getting draged out his home getting beat to death or Jerry Lewis imitating a Chinese servant? I think you need to understand a little bit of the 250 years of American history. Sure, you can be idealistic about it...."Joy is the world!" Kum-by-ya, or let us all hold hands and sing "We are the world..." But there is a reason why blacks, women, and to some extent Jews are treated with more consideration here in America. Idealistically, isn't not fair. But realistically (because we don't live in a black and white world), it is. black and white = all or nothing, i.e. no grey areas. What's next, Whiney Houston gets in trouble for imitating Celine Dion's French accent? Hell, maybe we should boycott Saturday Night Live for all the Celine Dion satire skits.
Jeff, you truly showed your intelligence level there. You are comparing Shaq mocking Bruce Lee movies to hype up a matchup, to someone saying we should still have slavery. I am not even black and I take offence to this. You really need to get off of Yao's jock and not type the first ignorant thing that comes to your mind when someone is not jocking him along with you. He is another player who, besides a few good runs has proved nothing yet. Besides if Shaq does not do that, the Rocket's-Laker's game that was so hyped and watched is just another game that Shaq dominates a center averaging 13 points a game. So you can say that those actions were not detrimental, but good for the NBA and Yao. It was hype. Notice how the story did not surface until the weeks leading up to the game, even though it happened in July. We all grew up watching Bruce Lee movies and have mocked them at one point or another when we were play fighting with friends. To even look at what he said as racist was just showing ignorance on your part and a complete lack of a sense of humor. And in the article linked here, he does not say one bad thing about Yao. He didn't agree with the voting. How is that a slap at Yao? There is no doubt he should be starting and that should not even be in debate. I am one of the biggest Rocket's fans, but I am not blind.
You know, T-man, I wish more people will think like you. What's a little joke among friends. As a WASP, I am truly grateful that we are finally realizing that all these crap about affirmative action is nothing more than hype. Yeah, let's do away with the hypocrisy. It's important to keep our sense of humor. Too bad Payne Stewart or Fuzzy ain't black.
If joking among friends (what Shaq did to Yao) is only normal, then protecting our own family member (what Jeff said for Yao) is also very natural.
What are sports? They are entertainment. It is meant to entertain you. This is why they spend the time building all these story lines. Without the story, there is not the anticipation or excitement for a game. Without that, there is not the demand. Without the demand your product loses money. Bottom line. Whether it be a good team coming to town or a player/ coach matchup, they create the best hype to get you to buy into it. Hence the ratings on the Yao/Shaq matchup or the Superbowl. How many story lines do they create in the week or two leading up to the Superbowl? That is why they usually have the extra week in there. If you go to a movie, Are you offended by the jokes there? What is the differrence? They are both entertainment. They were created to entertain. If you don't like a movie, you walk out or don't go see it in the first place. If you don't like what Shaq says, Change the channel or do not read everything written on him. If you think affirmative action was made for comments like shaq's, you really have no clue. If what he said was that bad, I guess the movie Kung-Pow was like one of your WASP get-togethers. Get a clue Dreamer.
carayip, I guess you are among the 30% who have no sense of humor. BTW, did you read my entire post or you just went off the handle reading the first two sentences. You know where I stand on the idiot prankster.
