You have to pay that tribute to OSKI2005 coz that was a quote of what he has said.

"This entire PC-inspired society has become so twisted that it is difficult to decipher anymore.

Two rules, however, do seem clear. Politcal correctness means:

    (1) White folks can't make fun of anyone anymore (except Texans, lawyers, big ugly chicks and politicians)

    (2) Folks can bust on anyone they want.

    Am I wrong?
    "

White folks can make fun of people.........if they're comedians, at least that's what I've observed lately.

This "political correctness" is getting out of hand IMO.
Besides, when did this whole "movement" begin?

Irvin was trying to be funny, as was Shaq by not pretending to know who Ming was and thinking he was in some old-school Kung Fu film.

Shaq can talk all he wants. He needs to be concerned about how he is going to defend Yao Mings jump shot.

I wasn't offended by what Zoeller said after the Masters. I wasn't said by what Cossel said at monday night football. I as a black man in america have grown to have thick skin because time moves on and if you worry about what people say about you a person will never succeed. Try telling my dad you were offended by word when he grew up in Jasper,tx in the 40's and 50's.

    My basic take on Shaq:
a)He's damn lucky to be the ONLY effective seven-footer for the moment
b)He gives stupidity a bad name

I'm not a fan of PC talk at all, but I do think there's a difference between what some White people have said as a joke and what Charles Barkley said as a joke about white people.

For one thing Black people in the past haven't gathered together in mass and enslaved whites, passed legislation preventing whites from attending certain schools, voting, barred them from certain jobs etc. So I think there should be a difference in the sensitivity used when making jokes.

It's like 'yo mama' jokes might be funny, but you don't tell them to the guy who's mother died the previous day.

I also agree that people can say whatever they want, and to let bigotry prove itself wrong.

    It's simple math:

    Shaq's IQ + Irvin's IQ = (.25) * Yao Ming's IQ

Now this has gotten ridiculous. None of you know these 2 personally, so there's no reason to say that they are r****ded, which is what less than 25% of Ming's IQ would be. Just because so many players in the league come from urban neigborhoods, and speak slang most of the time, doesn't mean they need to hire speech therapists. Even though I'm a rocket's fan, I don't see any reason to keep making fun of Shaq. Some of you guys are probably just mad because you'll never make as much money as shaq. Your angry because you feel you're smarter and that you work harder, yet this guy makes more money per game than you do per year. It's ok, it's allright, go ahead, take out your frustrations on the the big fella.

You might not be able to make the joke the next day, but come on its been a while right? Instead of focusing on random slurs of celebs as racism, why don't the media and everyone focus more on racism that exists in every day life in the courtroom, in the textbooks that students read, in the movie we watch. We are from from racial equallity ppl, and hiding it underground will only let it grow and fester. Instead of focusing on what Rocker, Shaq, zoeller or whoever says what, why don't we try to change real racism in every day life?

On a side note, the Chinese were used as slave labor in constructing the railroads, Chinatown was as much of a ghetto as the one jews lived in Nazi Germany, China it self was taken over by foerigners in the manner of spheres of influence in which the chinese are considered subservient, so im asking, how come we chinese aint getting no love in law ( affirmative action doesn't work for us) or the have any lean way in what we say (instead of victims we're seeing as racist bigots in movies like menace to society)?

    Where's the love man? :(
Maybe Yao Ming will bring some love :D

Was it a joke when Shaq called David Robinson a "punkass" in his book last year?

Was it a joke when Shaq pretty much tried to kill Brad Miller?

The guy is arrogant as hell for someone who's had everything given to him by being a genetic freak. His actual bball skills are average.

I read a few pieces from Shaq's book about the Rockets. The funniest things is that he mentioned worrying about Otis Thorpe in the 95 Finals. The guy's so damn stupid he doesn't even remember that Thorpe wasn't on the team that swept him.

This is also a guy who when asked if he visited the Parthenon in Europe said "I don't remember the names of the clubs we went to"

Maybe they should just start calling him "The Big Stupid"

Being Chinese-American I have to admit I'm offended by Shaq and Irvin's comments this just shows that Barkely was right when he said that atheletes aren't role models.

Too many people get offended too easily.

Who cares what someone else thinks about other races, why should we even care what Shaq or Irvin think? Who says they are the epitome of intelligence?

Shaq trash talk a lot and pretend to be a bad boy. But he is actually a good boy on the court. Sure, he throw some elbows but none of his fouls are really mean. A NBA player should worry more about Francis than Shaq because some of Francis's hard fouls are realy injury prone to the opposing players. Don't get me wrong, I like Francis as an exciting player and a fierce figher.

Shaq was not even able to land a punch, nor could he wrestle with Charles. But he claimed he can fight Robinson and Duncan on court or off court. He is just pretending to be a tough guy.

I'm not defending racial slurrs against anyone, including Chinese. And I agree that text books etc. are great places to focus more attention. But as I originally said most of the comments weren't making fun of the Chinese language, but the fact that Shaq and Irvin can't speak it, and how silly they would sound trying to speak it.

All that being said, of all the battles against racism, this one ranks among the most insignificant. There are much more important and bigger issues that people should focus on.

There may be bigger issues to focus on out there, but we focus on basketball related topics in here, that's why we come here, so I think this is fair game.
