Now that he's an elder statesman (like Olajuwon was), and won a few championships, you'd think he would honor his competitors. Let a sleeping dog lie shaq. Let a sleeping dog lie.
If you dish it out, you have to be able to take. All's fair in love and sports. Ming may present Shaq with some real challenges, then again, Shaq might put him in the cheap seats. Hey, this is fun, and I bet those who can will pay to see what happens. If Ming is the real deal, this could go on for the next five years. Yao Baby!
RELAX who cares? You know for everyone being so "openminded" and about eliminating the negative aspects of humanity and racial stereotypes and blah blah blah you guys don't seem very happy. The last time I checked Laughter made up a big part of my personal human positives.... that was funny, it wasn't meant to be anything more then it what it was, funny.... I mean christ what do you guys expect from these people that live lifes we will never know about, their not spending their time worrying about the negatives, their having fun.... Basketball is such a fun sport, why do we have to spend so much time criticising what we ultimately wish we had... besides it looks like Ming and Shaq is being billed and sold, and I think will see real quick if Ming has even the "potential" because their is no one else in the league that does, thats coool as hell, if anyone has a chance pretty soon it will be Ming... Besides Shaq is a cool guy, he leads a more interesting life then people who micromanage small snippets of a media and technological information controlled western affluent world. People don't matter, you just find it insulting you like you're looking for an insult... relax, this world is going to hell slowly, were all together in it, so lets just kick back and have some fun.
Is there really that much difference between this and the Jason Williams (the White Chocolate Jason Williams) incident, where he responded to heckling fans, one of whom happened to be Asian, with bigoted remarks? And didn't that Asian fan write a letter describing the incident to David Stern, eventually forcing Jason Williams to make a public apology? A lot of you posters are much more eloquent with words than I am. For those that are, please consider writing a similar letter to the NBA front office. I mean, c'mon, this was on a nationally televised broadcast, and this is supposed to be acceptable?
hmmmmm...'bows? shaq fu? Is shaq saying he will have to resort to fouling Ming in order to stop him? Anyway, Shaq is hollywood. I dont take anything he says very seriously.
If two Asian or Caucasian dudes had gone on national tv and made fun of the way African-Americans or even Hispanics talk, they would be in hot water. I have no doubt about that.
I saw it when it first aired and really didn't see anything wrong. It was kinda like Tucker and Chan like stuff. In part 2 when chan said over here I'm michael jackson and you're toto, tucker said tito ,toto was what we had last night. Why didn't people get riled up about that. It was like meking a age old reference that asain people eat dogs. Some people get riled up and from experience it can be taken when someone is being insensitve against another race color or creed. I'm a 31 yr old successful black man in america and in my short life have had first hand taste of racist people, but i keep motoring along. Most people know when someone is being racial and to my opinion it was just basically comedy. Ilike Ming and what he brings, but shaq is always a good interview.
This entire PC-inspired society has become so twisted that it is difficult to decipher anymore. Two rules, however, do seem clear. Politcal correctness means: (1) White folks can't make fun of anyone anymore (except Texans, lawyers, big ugly chicks and politicians) (2) Folks can bust on anyone they want. Am I wrong?
Well i've seen many comedians , asian and caucasian, speak with an accent when they are talking about hispanic people, as if they all had a thick mexican accent. One example , and it's not even a comedian . During a highlight on Sportscenter when a baseball player with a latin last name hit a homerun, one of those ESPN guys (Kenny Mayne maybe?) would say homerun with a bad spanish accent . I dont remember him ever being in hot water.
Everyone should be able to laugh about anything. People should not get offended by mere words. What is that saying...sticks and stones..... DaDakota
Aw who cares what Irvin said anyway. I mean look at the guy. He's a washed up nobody ignorant crackhead. I'm shocked FOX even had that idiot on TV, but FOX is run by a bunch of crackheads anyway that don't know their Arse from their heads. Shaq is just shaq, playing the "dumb ignorant" card. He's puts on the "stupid big baby Huey" act for kicks. He's okay. The problem is, he will never be really "respected!" He is considered one of the "Greatest centers of all time!" But nobody really respects him. When Hakeem walked into a room, he got respect. He was a class-act. Shaq has no class, but he is a good guy. He might do his stupid rap-albums and bad movies. But the guy is a good person. My little 4 year old nephew goes to Shaq'a sons daycare in Los Angeles and sometimes Shaq picks him up. My sister says he's really a nice guy. He even took pictures at the school and gave away shoes, jerseys, etc at a silent auction as a school fundraiser. I see Ming becoming a very respected player as an ambassador to China. I see Irvin in prison one day.
I just wish people on TV or any other forms of media were a little more careful at what they display for us to see. I really don't know if the show was live or not, but it would've been really easy to edit that portion out with Irvin so as to not offend anyone. I'm Japanese-American, and speak both English and Japanese without an accent. And I'll admit that sometimes, many Asian languages can sound a little "twangy" as Irvin so accurately demonstrated for us. But what he did on TV bunches all of us Asians together, as speaking in that way. So as a Japanese-American, it hurts a little. Anyway I just hope Ming Yao proves himself to be a great player in the NBA, to break some of these stereotypes. And he needs to take English lessons right away so he can do his own interviews.
what kills me, is that people are hurt by this..... if you're hurt by this, this continue to plastic wrap you're life... Typically the people who are most offended by "insensitive" materiel don't see it.... thats why its so offensive, I mean sure, I understand the point of view, but if you let stuff like that get you, then why not just get off this crazy ride called life... because trust me, what other people think isn't all that important, gives you focus and strength..... I just want to see Ming on the court. Because of all this ching chang nonsense, hypothetically if hes the real deal he will be a better player because of it, only the best survive when you go through the fire... just live, enjoy everything drink beer watch basketball and have fun! this sounds kinda close to an open forum for discussion on real issues.... hehehe usually its overloaded on the "popular" opinion and then the other side is bombarded... discourse is the only way towards understanding
Thanks JBOND77. You know, it's not that I run home crying after seeing this kind of stuff. I actually agree with you that people should just accept their differences and be able to take smack when it's dished out. But that "chingchangchong" crap, there really isn't too much fun in that.
It's all publicity folks and guess what , they're doing the freaking interview out in LALA land, the home of the fakers. The guy has no freaking idea that ming eventually will be the guy who will punish him in the paint!!! I had enough of their dirty players, thrash talking and hollywood show off, because that does'nt blow my top!!
Who is the man that can dunk on any man? Ming Can you imagine Ming in some of these Nike commercials? Perhaps dancing next to Cat.
