At the risk of Yao not being the starter for one year or two, I wish coaches chose the players. Better yet, the 1/3 way NHL uses. Even better than that, give 2/3 to the coaches and 1/3 to the fans. It would really make it more of a serious game and that's what fans and players want. No fan wants to see a popularity contest, they want to see players really compete, which is why the game was boring until the overtimes. Even the players would rather come out and hold real bragging rights, and play against teh best. Shell out some extra cash, and extend the berak. Make the break 10 days, games on the 5th and 6th days. Bring the real stars to the All Star game, and let the fans vote for who should be in the dunk contest. Best idea I've ever heard: Let the fans choose 27 players. Choose 3 captains, let them choose their team before the All Star game somehow. The captain's choices will be very intruiging, and the captains will choose players to win. I, for one, would LOVE to see, for example, Steve Francis waving off Shaq for Yao Ming. Another idea is to let the coaches choose between the 22 players. Isaiah Thomas waving off Jordan? Nice. Lose the East vs West format, it will be years before the East is good enough.
