Up until 1 minute ago before I clicked this thread, I was sure that Shaq is not a Muslim.

    I still don't.

I haven't clicked on that video though. I don't think Mutombo is a Muslim either.

Unless God has spoken to you personally, you're pretty much stuck taking some fallible man's word for it, no matter what you choose to believe.

Im pretty certain that Dikembe Mutombo isn't a Muslim.

"Growing up in the Congo, his parents were Presbyterians and he attended Catholic schools. In Atlanta, Mutombo and his family attend Eastside Baptist Church."

As for Shaq, I had known of the rumors for a while now then noticed that all of his kids had Muslim/Arabic names. I know for certain that Shaq wasn't born into a Muslim household so maybe from his time and friendship with Hakeem, he was influenced and embraced Islam afterwards.

But that's great that he's going to Hajj. It is said to be a life altering experience for many that go. I'm a Muslim as well and will make it my life's goal to eventually attend.

As for the one that asked that going to Hajj will erase your sins. That is entirely up to God. Going with the intention of repenting and having your slate cleaned then by the will of God you will be forgiven for all.

Basically, no human being has access to a book of the Sins and Good Deeds one has done to keep track how many sins one has so far or whether they have been erased. That will be found out in the afterlife. You just have to hope that your Hajj is accepted and God has forgiven you.

True, or you could just hold out until God speaks to you personally and not believe the stuff that others say.

Popularity is no substitute for truth.

Apparently Hakeem didn't only school him in basketball, but also in religion.

It's just a religion, sheesh. This might be part of the reason why Shaq doesn't openly mention his religious views. Just another thing for others to criticize.

Unless you find an infallible man's word to take. Or God arranges that a particular man's fallibility only manifests in other parts of his life than the conveyance of the message.

So when Robert Gibbs tells you "the white house's position is..." you refuse to believe it until you hear President Obama tell you face to face? You must not be certain of many things in your life.

    True. But relevance?

Man, i feel for you. Congratulations on being right though - that must be great.

DaDakota - did you really come into this thread to take on religion and change people's minds? If so, you may be more irrationally stubborn than I gave you credit for.

True dat - wouldn't want to get bombarded by all the 'enlightened' internet posters

PS - I'm no Muslim, but I think it's humorous when anyone dismisses another person's creed in order to cling to their own.

I think its really just your own relationship between you and god, b ecause ven with the 5 pillars, its not in the quran, its out of a hadith which there are thousands off and many are questionable in source bc the validity is hard to prove and there are many that are accepted by some and not by others so on, its just the quran which in its many translations can be ready differently like any ofther religious book and therefore you have different interpretations of the faith so there is no 'real' islam, but what islam is to different individuals just like other religions too, so its a question which attempts to simplify something that is complex and intricate in nature and perhaps inappropriate due to that.

My friend met him at a mosque in Houston, but then I saw him bless himself before a game, so I don't know.

Maybe Shaq can save his eternal soul, but I don't think there's much hope for Nick Anderson after clanging those 4 straight free throws.

Did anyone catch what the guy asked when Shaq answered Obama and Tiger Woods in the beginning?

I didn't know that God's prophets were openly on the payroll, accepted by everyone in the world as speaking for him, and operating out of God's place of business. All of these things are true of Gibbs with respect to Obama.

Is Shaq really duping everyone in this thread? C'mon, this is Shaq we're talking about. The Big Aristotle, The Big Shamrock. The guy doesn't take himself too seriously, and that's why everyone loves him.

That being said, just b/c he has a Muslim first name or some of his relatives have Muslim first names means zilch. Otherwise, Rasheed Wallace and his whole family are Muslim, too.

Furthermore, to go do Hajj, you first need permission to enter Mecca, Saudi Arabia - and to attain such a visa, you need certificates attesting to your Muslim-hood. I find it hard to believe that the guy who is also fuhcking Hoopz and trying to hook up with various other women all these years is also Muslim. Then again, it's possible he's just a secret, non-practicing Muslim like Chamillionaire, Busta Rhymes, and every other rapper rumored to be Muslim.

Still, I'm definitely very pleased and impressed by his use of 'InshAllah' and his understanding of Hajj.
