    :D

Yeah, Shaq is dumb, but he's not evil, he's not racist in intent, and loves Yao because Yao is his only legit rival (in my opinion). But's it's true that he loves Yao.

This thread shouldn't even be here, but it is...whatever whatever...let's move on.

Not sure what this "counting ballots" is all about...it's not about the best player......it's about POPULARITY. And Yao won the popular vote. That's all that counts in the All-Star weekend. The All-Stars is not necessarily about the best player. Sometimes, but not always. This has been going on for decades.

What else is new? Shaq is "sour grapes" because he lost the popular vote. Oh well...He's pointing out the obvious: Shaq is better player than Yao. But Yao is more popular.

The All-Star debate will go on for ages...(so-and-so deserves to go over so-and-so....)....

If there is a basketball god, we will get to be blessed with Houston vs. LA in the playoffs. A 3 vs. 6 matchup is quite possible.

I think the Lakers are scared of the Rockets more than Spurs/Kings/Marveriks. Rockets have Yao to counter Shaq while others don't.

Great information! Thanks for find that!

So when the LA fans boo Yao for starting in the All Star game ahead of home town boy, Shaq, they have NO ONE to blame but THEMSELVES! HA HA HA

I can't speak first hand to how many ballots the Lakers send to the league -- the LA Times estimate is interesting, though.

I do know that we've been among the top few teams in ballots returned the last few years, though. We set a new NBA record for submitted ballots two years ago, and came in a very close second last year. They'll tell us next week where we ranked in terms of ballots submitted. We usually run through every ballot they ship to us and are begging for more.

Houston fans have been great participating in the All Star balloting program we started in 2001-02. Couldn't ask for more on that front. There's also quite a few teams that have copied our program since then. You gotta feel good about that.

The league should get some credit for this, too -- they do a lot to encourage teams to get the vote out. There's a big contest every year, and our Events staff competes against the Events staff from every other team. One of the highlights for of the season for me has been announcing the results and handing out prizes from the league to the people on my team that develop and execute the program.

We have a lot of things we're working hard on -- it's great to have tangible wins like that when you can get them.

Quit being so freaking sensitive. Political correctness hasn't changed anything except the face we expose. It hasn't changed anyone's heart. Its made us superficial.

When it comes to the Fakers, even their fans are fake.

OK so in Shaq's heart and face he is a whining idiot.

I know Shaq believes he was being funny but his act has long worn thin.

    Tim, good job.

It would seem to me that if each team was allotted a certain number of ballots, the Lakers would be getting a second helping of support. People attending Clippers games would be likely to vote for Shaq as well, essentially doubling his base. Of course, somehow I doubt the Clippers were very good about getting out the vote either.

Intesting numbers. 180,000 ballots time 29 teams is 5,220,000 physical ballots available. Adding up the votes for the top-8 centers gets you 6,762,698, which is the minimum number of total votes cast and counted. That means there are at least 1,542,698 internet votes and in actuality quite a few more since not all centers were listed and since not all teams used most (or even some) of their allotted ballots. Ok, maybe no one else will find that interesting. :)

Having spent some time in CA I got the feeling that LA fans have been lazy and spoiled. They show up late and leave early and few seem really fanatical.
