I think that Ming will be a great center and Shaq is just giving him his props because we all know that Ming will be the real deal, but aren't some of you taking his statements a bit too seriously? He is just acknowledging the competition that's all, he has respect for the game and the players who make the game what it is, trust me he's not afraid of Ming just yet.

Yep. He does realize Ming is the real deal and is no longer just making light off him.

Ah. Aristotle educated Alexander the Great of Macedon from the age of 13 to 17. They corresponded for years afterward. Perhaps Shaq has delved more deeply into his intellectual pursuits. He may see himself not only as Aristotle, but as his most famous pupil as well.

Or, it could be irrational exuberance brought about by excellent pain medication.

We may never know. It IS Shaq, after all.

hehe...it's gotta be the morphine. that would explain his sentimental, "I love you, man" moment upon seeing Phil Jackson, as he awoke.

Your very true Shaq is still young.

I have a thought about this whole kick him while he is down theory, When David hit Goliaith with the stone in the forehead, He(David) didnt waste time kicking Goliath. Instead he drew the sword of Goliath and chopped off his head! 1Samuel 17:51

Let us not just kick Shaq while he is down let us utterly destroy him....:D Perhaps, the denouement has come?

I was wondering about his comment...Shaq's usually not the softy type.

Phil was probably trying to get away: "Let go Shaq, you're crushing me!"

David S I think you are doing a lot of guess work and estimation on your height statistics.I think you should consult the NBA to get the official, non shoes measurements!

Draftnet has the official pre-draft measurements for Yao.

As far as the others...25 years of reading biographies, articles, interviews
    and statistical books.

These sources are more objective, rather than the hype plagued
    NBC and TNT sports.

You can also find some good bios about players from their alma mater
    websites; ex: www.ucla.edu.

You heard Shaq say he was nervous of Yao? Or you're just interpreting innocuous comments to suit your Yao Mania? Yeah okay Gilligan.
