Looks like the Diesel's run is over. What a great career though. I bet it burns that Kobe has one more ring:

If this is the end of his career, I hope he has no regrets and can walk away knowing he was one of the best to ever play the game. You don't want to end your career with an injury, but this is probably what's best for him.

i'm sure it's eating him up inside knowing that he had a good chance this year had he not injured his leg.

It's really amazing he's been able to play as long as he with his size.

Im sure Shaq will play one more year for a contender...Mavs??..... I dont think Shaq cares about Kobe winning one more than him.....He just wanted to prove a point...Now Gasol gets to say the same thing

    Should've called it a career in 09.

Can't blame him for trying, though.

    Goodnight, big fella.

What? Is that Jeff Van Gundy trying to guard Shaq, or something.

Sad to hear but it was time. Has been on a downhill slide since Miami and watching him try to get down the court this week was painful. He won titles, mvp's, and is one of the best ever, a complete career. Now he can finally be on tv or be a cop full time.

Sad to see him go out like this.

Truly and undeniably one of the game's best ever.

Probably the #1 player that comes to mind anytime one of those "Hmmm I wonder what would happen if Player X played in this generation" type discussions.

One of the most entertaining players to ever play the game, but it was just his time. He will obviously go down as one of the greatest players of all time, and he personified an era where big man basketball was at a peak. I'm looking forward to seeing his antics on TV....I'm sure Inside the NBA will extend an offer to him. The opportunity to have Shaq and Chuck on the same set is too good to pass up.

Actually, with the exception of his first 4-5 years, Shaq faced one of the weakest big man eras of the last 30 years.

    Who was his chief competition?

Zo, Sabonis, Mutombo, Divac, Dale Davis, Ben Wallace, Brad Miller? Perhaps maybe the twilight versions of David Robinson and Rik Smits?

Yao is really the best he ever faced during his prime, and even then, Yao was either very young, or injured.

He was an ass, but he was entertaining as well. I can see him sticking around in media.
