Seriously if anyone called out Yao and said he was flopping on defense, I would be pissed in Yao's defense. It's the only way he can get calls to go his way. Although Shaq took it too far, I understand how he would feel since that's what you have to do these days to get a call. I wish Yao would call out other players like that. ie the ENTIRE Jazz front court. T_T.
According to Feigen, link on Chron , Yao was asked after his "Shaq doesn't flop" comment, whether he had heard of SVG's comment, Yao said, "Oh, yeah, I saw that." This is great psychology in play! Hopefully, in order to remain a "man" (vs being a flopper), Shaq will think twice before trying his second flop ever on Yao! Feigen did sound genuinely worried (ha ha) about how Shaq will treat Yao though
LMAO! Shaq with another classic quote I agree Shaq went over the line here completely destroying SVG and attacking his character (going "nuclear" as some of you said here). But I always like it when Shaq opens his mouth because I know he will be coming up with yet another classic quote. Afterall, it is just entertainment, and Shaq is the best entertainer and the best personality in the league. It does seem like Shaq had a bad history with SVG the way he threw him under the bus like that. It is obvious there was so much bottled up anger or resentment there that he just unleashed once the opportunity presented itself.
is anyone else sick of shaq being such a b****? anytime his name is mentioned in a bad sentence he freaks out and starts crying, personal attacks against van gundy? how immature, van gundy called him out for being a hypocryte and shaq has to call him out saying his career basically a failure, that he can't coach because he "panics" woooow, i didnt like shaq before, but now...i HATE him, what a serious bag of deuche
Like I said a few days ago, Shaq's 'kid at heart' playfulness has an ego to match. It's not really an act.
This post echoes my thoughts as well. I'm so tired of him. He's an emotionally fragile little baby. Just shut up and retire. You're not even gonna make the playoffs, anyway. Classless little spoiled brat.
So let me get this straight. SVG calls Shaq out for a particular flop during the game. Shaq takes offense at this, and admitting he flopped on the particular play in question, misconstrues the comment as an allegation of routine flopping (ie: making him a "flopper") and indictment upon his career/character. He then unloads on Patrick Ewing and the Van Gundy brothers. Huh? Bill Cosby needs to start a show called "Professional Athletes Say the Darndest Things."
Not quite. Shaq wants to think of himself as the "MDE" but plays against somebody who is clearly superior in the present and might eventually be bigger historically. In his desperation to succeed in the game, he turns to a tactic he despises and flops. Having flopped, he feels incredibly dirty, having betrayed eveything he once stood for. He feels he's sold his legacy for a bag of beans, admitted his weakness, and become the enemy he has despised his whole life. Unable to hate on himself, however, he makes a pretense of an excuse for his own behavior and turns his self-loathing to the most convenient target -- the guy that put the world's spotlight on Shaq's self-emasculation.
I think you having a little backwards. Lets look at the quote from SVG Shaq flopped once and SVG questioned his manhood and essentially calls him a flopper. Shaq takes offense and then airs his disdain for the Van Gundys and Ewing. I think Shaq took it a little far but I think there are obviously some tension between Shaq and SVG. Shaq did have a hand in getting SVG fired.
Only thing that bothered me was what he said about JVG, referring to him as the other brother and saying he has accomplished more than him basically. Besides that I could care less what he said back to SVG, it was pretty funny.
Didn't want to start a new thread, but I found Shaq's twitter http://twitter.com/THE_REAL_SHAQ His posts are ridiculous and wildly entertaining
It still irritates me when people say Kobe ran Shaq out of LA and that Kobe was the villian in that situation. Could it be any more clear that Shaq is a douche? He has issues with all of his past teammates and coaches (Riley, Van Gundy, Wade), he quit on the heat and was so out of shape that season he says the most classless things, flops, etc... and the whole "kobe how my ass taste" was the worst one of all. LA was so smart to get rid of this overpaid, classless, lazy, jerk.
Except for the fact that the Heat instantly recorded a Conference Finals appearance one year and an NBA Championship the next. Meanwhile, the Lakers missed the playoffs, lost in the first round two years all without Shaq before stealing Pau Gasol in order to become legitimate again. You can make the point that the Heat were only good for two years before Shaq essentially quit on the Heat but a championship justifies a lot of things including this trade. The Heat clearly came out on top of this move and while I agree entirely that Shaq is a douche.....so is Kobe. I consider them both at fault for the fallout in LA. They had just made the NBA Finals yet neither could swallow their pride or egos enough to allow the most dominant duo in the league to remain existing.
Shaq, Kobe, and Phil are three of the biggest egos in the NBA. They deserved each other...for better or for worse.
